Igor Ljubuncic (igorljubuncic) | 10 comments I'm brushing up on my Dale Brown - not to be confused with Dan Brown. Techno-thriller stuff, heavy on military materiel and jargon, but less politics-focused than Clancy.

I've reread Night of the Hawk (Patrick McLanahan #2) several times, can't find a nice paperback #3, so I'm gonna continue with book #4 onwards. Just a few dozen to go ...

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Binary Storm by Christopher Hinz is a SF adventure, a prequel to his Paratwa trilogy that was written & should be read afterward. It fills in some gaps & I really liked it. I was a bit surprised since often such additions are a let down. This wasn't. I gave it a 4 star review here:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I finished Where Eagles Dare by Alistair MacLean and gave it 4 stars. I'll save my specific thoughts for the book discussion next month.

I'm currently reading Armor by John Steakley which is a military-SF book with some long and exciting combat action sequences.

Igor Ljubuncic (igorljubuncic) | 10 comments Just started: "Day of the Cheetah" by Dale Brown:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

Classic, formulaic, cliche, good.

It's very similar to the second book in the series, Night of the Hawk (the first one was added AFTER the second, and I never got to read the third).

We have a Russian deep-cover agent impersonating an American top-shot pilot in order to get a hand of Area 51 spy stuff aircraft technology. In NoTH, we had an American pilot captured by the Soviets and brainwashed to think he's Russian, and of course, there's a state-of-art plane there, as well!

It's been 20 years since I've read some of the books in this series, and it's time to start fresh. Simple, straightforward action, like everything made in the 80s.

Igor

This book sounds intriguing...Looking forward to hearing what you think once you are finished reading it.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) I finished

March Violets (Bernie Gunther, #1) by Philip Kerr
March Violets by Philip Kerr

a terrific detective novel which is set in 1936 Berlin during the rise of the Nazi Party as the Olympic Games are about to begin. The mystery part is good but when you add the vivid historical setting it really puts the story over the top, I gave it 5 stars.

Just finished The Titan's Curse on audio and I started The Promise. The audiobooks are a life-saver. I'm so busy with stuff that I don't always have time to open a book. I listen to lots of audios instead.

message 4926: by Lance (new)

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments The Killing Kind is the literary analog to stock footage. That said, the author cut the clips together really well, producing a killer-killing-killers story that's highly familiar but still entertaining for the time it takes to read it. Empty calories? Sure, but they go down easy. Two and a half stars rounded up to three.

True. I've said before I asked God to let me stay around till I caught up on my TBR List, but since I keep adding to it (usually I add more than I finish in a given period of time) it's probably not a reasonable request...
