Romance Readers Reading Challenges discussion

Phyllis Christine Cast (born 1960) is an American romance/fantasy author, best known for the House of Night series she writes with her daughter Kristin Cast, as well as her own Goddess Summoning and Partholon book series.

P.C. Cast was born in the Midwest, and grew up being shuttled back-and-forth between Illinois and Oklahoma, which is where she fell in love with Quarter Horses and mythology (at about the same time). After high school she joined the United States Air Force and began public speaking and writing. After her tour in the USAF, she taught high school for 15 years before retiring to write full time.

In 2005, she and her daughter began co-writing the House of Night series. In the wake of the current popularity of vampire fiction led by Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series, the Casts' books have enjoyed substantial and increasing critical and commercial success. According to P.C. Cast, the concept for the House of Night novels came from her agent, who suggested the theme "vampire finishing school." Trivia: Cast uses an alternative spelling of vampyre in the books, explaining it as a choice she made "just 'cause I like the way it looks".

Ms. Cast is a New York Times Best-Selling author and a member of the Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame. Her novels have received numerious prestigous awards including the YALSA award for reluctant readers.

B - could take it or leave it. Was not an unpleasant experience but I'm not burning rubber to get to her other books.

ohh goodie..not sure which one of hers i'll read, but it'll probably be in the goddess summoning series - but i'm a B - read her GS series, but none of her others

I am new to her and I love when it's a new author for me to try- that makes me a C

I think I'll give this author a try. I'm a 'C'. Does anyone who is more familiar with her work have a rec?

I like her goddess ones jane - they are like twists on greek mythology - goddess of the rose is my fav - its like a beauty and the beast retelling

I'm an A. I love her Goddess Summoning and Partholon series. HON started out good, but fizzled for me.

I put the C in PC but always willing to cast out for a new author.

I'm a C - but I've seen her name around enough that I'm curious to try something of hers. I have no idea yet what that will be though.

I'm a C and I have no idea what I will be reading. I'm looking forward to trying one though!

I think I will go with her Goddess series. Dee, you had me when you said it has the Beauty and the Beast retelling. I'm a sucker for those!

I'm a D so I will read something from one of her non-House of Night books - probably Divine By Mistake

I was reading her HON series, but it really stumbled for me. I guess that makes me a "D", but I'm not sure if I'll try to restart the HON or go with her Goddess series.

I'm a B - I read the first Goddess Summoning book and liked it well enough but didn't rush right out for another. So I'll do the second one and I'll read Goddess of Spring.

I'm a C and I'm going to try Divine By Mistake. I usually avoid YA authors like the plague because I just don't enjoy the high school popularity cliques, petty nastiness, and the "I wonder if he likes me", "I think he likes me", "OMG he's kissing my best friend" type of stuff. I'm hoping Divine By Mistake is geared more towards adults.

I didn't like the last HON book that I read. Haven't decided yet if I will continue with the HON series or pick a new one of hers.

I started as a C. I read Divine Beginnings . It wasn't my sort of book and I didn't enjoy it. Although I would try another one at a later date (much later), to see if I enjoyed it better I would still class myself as a C.
