Yay, it works...just had a quick chat to Cw and he came through loud and clear.
I haven't got other people's skype names on the list though.
Perhaps you have to add them one at a time?
I'm going to steer clear of the webcam though!

Ah, I've found the list Cw has sent me and I've put in my requests.

Skype updated itself last night on my laptop, and I just noticed it unpinned itself from my taskbar. It'll be taking over the laptop and pretending to be me next...

Sorry I missed you all on Skype on Thursday, was not too well, it seems like you had a good time & I am looking forward to next Thursday already. I have exchanged contacts with those of you have sent a request & although I use skype a lot it is only on a one to one basis so I hope someone will tell me how to talk to more than one person at once.

I'm just waiting for replies from Simon and Judith now. Ive no idea how the group call works but I expect I'll work it out by the 1st Sept.

I'm supposed to be back settled in the house on the island by the evening of September 1st, all being well. Hopefully I'll be able to join in.

I've got you on my list as available when you've got the green tick so I know I can do one to one...just don't know how you join into the group chat, do you have to be invited off the list?

I think you have to set up a group and add all the members to it. Or while you are in the call it gives you the option to set up a group with all the people who are in that call. Then you can click on the group and it gives you an option to call the group. It calls all the members and sets up the call for you. If someone else calls the group you just answer the call and it adds you into it.

I saw the call group button Gingerlilliy & did wonder if that would do the trick. I think all the goodreads people are already in a "group" not sure how that happened either as it's nothing I have done,

Right I've made and saved a group but I can't add Judith or Highwayman to it because they've not shared their details with me.

Jud's been quiet lately. I hope she's having a lovely weekend.

It beats me. I am deferring to combat w on this one. I will of course add everyone next time I go on Skype though.

How many people should there be in the group?

Usually, one person starts the conversation then calls another and adds them, repeat until full.

"Full" is a very good question.

Basically, I/we don't know (yet).

In my head I am thinking 5 was great, and that 10 should be ok. 37 would probably kill my pc - and possibly my ears :(

We are on a learning curve and hopefully all will be gentle the first couple of times - and hoping for a chat of about 10-ish to see how things go.

Couple of hints and tips:
1 - If you have a headset it's cool (but please make sure you do not eat the mic as heavy breathing gets too exciting);
2 - If you need a biological or to iron the cat, please remember to hit the MUTE button on your screen so we don't all become aural spectators;
3 - Please try to not be in the same room as a footie match on the TV - loud background noise will swamp the channel.
4 - Talk about books ;)

The "host" (whoever calls the group) can just add new callers (if known) to the call. Others on the call can not add.

Yes Patti I have been quiet (so unlike me but fear not I am safe and well) and i did have a lovely weekend. I was down visiting my old flat mate and her hubby in Perth (Scotland) and then we went shopping but very unsuccessfully for holiday items only 2 and half weeks till I go to mallorca :oD and then I was round at another friends/nephews to watch x-factor and stay over and then we went swimming so it was busy but fun and no internet but i still managed to find time to read!

Vanessa I will add you next time i'm on my laptop prob be tomorrow. I'm not ignoring you promise!

Now i'm off to catch up on all the other topics

I dont think I can do Skype, (I use OH's computer) and understandably not keen on adding something to someone else's computer. You'll have to post a brief note for those those like me who feel they are "missing something" please.

There's an idea. Would anyone like to be the 'Skype secretary' for those who can't make the discussion?

Not much good me doin it Patti, as you know I can only just manage to post on here let alone anything complicated. I'm sure someone will volunteer before long.

I think we'd need someone who is a touch typist. Not a job for me. I'm definitely of the one finger poke variety.
