Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Did you go to every thread looking for something on topic Patti?

message 103: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Aug 26, 2011 10:12AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yep. Most of the author threads are on topic, too.
PMSL, Gingerlily!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good job with the thread creep, Gingerlily. ;)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm famous for it. I've been practising for the last 6 months.

Success! (Was not sure that contact requests were stored off line. Woot!)

Added, added to conference group and contacts returned :)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments OK..I have got skype & sent a request to cwgoodreads......

so what do I do next? (apart from rescuing webcam from laptop bag & attaching it to desktop pc)

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Yay, it works...just had a quick chat to Cw and he came through loud and clear.
I haven't got other people's skype names on the list though.
Perhaps you have to add them one at a time?
I'm going to steer clear of the webcam though!

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Ah, I've found the list Cw has sent me and I've put in my requests.

message 111: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm really looking forward to trying it.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Skype updated itself last night on my laptop, and I just noticed it unpinned itself from my taskbar. It'll be taking over the laptop and pretending to be me next...

Jay - I think you sent it to cwgoodreads .... nothing has come through to cwgoodread (no s)

Sorry :(

My mistake on posting here...I have sent it to cwgoodread. My skype name is janet-goodreads-jay.me & I've used my profile picture from here (sloth hanging around in Amazon :) )

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments So, um, I added cwgoodread to my Skype. Bit of a lurker here. Um, hi *waves*

message 116: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hi Anne-Mhairi!

You are very welcome here! The Skype thing should be very fun!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Lurk on Anne-Mhairi. Chime up whenever you like. Or not!

message 118: by Cw (new)

Cw (confusedwombat) Anne-Mhairi: There is nothing wrong with a good lurk :)

(It's always the quiet ones that you have to watch out for ...)

message 119: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments That proverb has totally screwed up my plan. Not that I have a plan. Now everyone suspects I'm up to something. It's terribly awkward for my stealth. Not that I'm being stealthy. Got no reason to be stealthy. Not planning anything, requiring stealth or otherwise. Um. *sneaks away to a dark corner*

message 120: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Sorry I missed you all on Skype on Thursday, was not too well, it seems like you had a good time & I am looking forward to next Thursday already. I have exchanged contacts with those of you have sent a request & although I use skype a lot it is only on a one to one basis so I hope someone will tell me how to talk to more than one person at once.

message 121: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sorry you've not been well, Anita! I hope you're all sorted now.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'm just waiting for replies from Simon and Judith now. Ive no idea how the group call works but I expect I'll work it out by the 1st Sept.

message 123: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm supposed to be back settled in the house on the island by the evening of September 1st, all being well. Hopefully I'll be able to join in.

message 124: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Thanks Patti, all ok now, looking forward to thursday, hope you will be able to join in.
When you find out Vanessalet me know please!

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Hi Anita,
I've got you on my list as available when you've got the green tick so I know I can do one to one...just don't know how you join into the group chat, do you have to be invited off the list?

message 126: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments not sure Vanessa, have only talked on a one to one in the past

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I think you have to set up a group and add all the members to it. Or while you are in the call it gives you the option to set up a group with all the people who are in that call. Then you can click on the group and it gives you an option to call the group. It calls all the members and sets up the call for you. If someone else calls the group you just answer the call and it adds you into it.

message 128: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I saw the call group button Gingerlilliy & did wonder if that would do the trick. I think all the goodreads people are already in a "group" not sure how that happened either as it's nothing I have done,

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Right I've made and saved a group but I can't add Judith or Highwayman to it because they've not shared their details with me.

message 130: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Jud's been quiet lately. I hope she's having a lovely weekend.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments It beats me. I am deferring to combat w on this one. I will of course add everyone next time I go on Skype though.

message 132: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments How many people should there be in the group?

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Usually, one person starts the conversation then calls another and adds them, repeat until full.

message 134: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments What's full, though, Geoff?

message 135: by Cw (last edited Aug 28, 2011 03:10PM) (new)

Cw (confusedwombat) "Full" is a very good question.

Basically, I/we don't know (yet).

In my head I am thinking 5 was great, and that 10 should be ok. 37 would probably kill my pc - and possibly my ears :(

We are on a learning curve and hopefully all will be gentle the first couple of times - and hoping for a chat of about 10-ish to see how things go.

Couple of hints and tips:
1 - If you have a headset it's cool (but please make sure you do not eat the mic as heavy breathing gets too exciting);
2 - If you need a biological or to iron the cat, please remember to hit the MUTE button on your screen so we don't all become aural spectators;
3 - Please try to not be in the same room as a footie match on the TV - loud background noise will swamp the channel.
4 - Talk about books ;)

The "host" (whoever calls the group) can just add new callers (if known) to the call. Others on the call can not add.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments No comment 5 on singing?

message 137: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments 4 talk about books. I seem to recall I was discussed recently.

Hi. I'm a book. :p

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments As I understand it CW, you'll be calling us on the 1st and we just answer, is that right?

message 139: by Cw (new)

Cw (confusedwombat) @Vanessa: Yes :)

Also happy to call or be called if you see the Combat on -line if you just want to test the equipment out or see how it sounds or or or ... Probably true of any of the Goodread team :)

message 140: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yes Patti I have been quiet (so unlike me but fear not I am safe and well) and i did have a lovely weekend. I was down visiting my old flat mate and her hubby in Perth (Scotland) and then we went shopping but very unsuccessfully for holiday items only 2 and half weeks till I go to mallorca :oD and then I was round at another friends/nephews to watch x-factor and stay over and then we went swimming so it was busy but fun and no internet but i still managed to find time to read!

Vanessa I will add you next time i'm on my laptop prob be tomorrow. I'm not ignoring you promise!

Now i'm off to catch up on all the other topics

message 141: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Welcome back, Jud. Glad you had such a lovely time. We missed you!

Don't talk about frickin shopping.

message 142: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments sorry i wont mention it again...

Thanks Patti, missed you too!

message 143: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Thank you CW I understand it a bit better now, or I think I do!

Glad you had a nice weekend Jud.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I dont think I can do Skype, (I use OH's computer) and understandably not keen on adding something to someone else's computer. You'll have to post a brief note for those those like me who feel they are "missing something" please.

message 145: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments There's an idea. Would anyone like to be the 'Skype secretary' for those who can't make the discussion?

message 146: by Anita (new)

Anita | 3313 comments Not much good me doin it Patti, as you know I can only just manage to post on here let alone anything complicated. I'm sure someone will volunteer before long.

message 147: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think we'd need someone who is a touch typist. Not a job for me. I'm definitely of the one finger poke variety.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'd be no good...I can't follow a conversation and type at the same time.
I'm a slow two finger typist as well.
:0(

message 149: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 1158 comments I can touchtype but I'd get caught up in the conversation and forget to make a note of things :S

message 150: by Cw (new)

Cw (confusedwombat) Well it's Thursday 1st and am looking forward to chat over coffee and nibbles about whatever takes the groups fancy :)

*PLEASE* If you want to join the call (even if only to listen and lurk) add CWGOODREAD as a contact before 19:00 UK since I'll probably muck up creating the conference call if there are lots of "oh, add me" pings during it :)

Out of interest, garden has been inundated with wasps :( Who said flowers can't fight back!
