Actually, I started watching that on its BBC run with very low expectations and by the end of the last series it had become really rather good at times.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments We are catching up on Press. It is a very good BBC production of the newspaper industry. Many of the professional pundits are saying it is a very good representation of the British newsroom. I suppose they should know.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I started that, should finish it

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Well worth it. Saw episode 4 last night. Intriguing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Started Season 1 of The Strain this morning

Les | 266 comments Watched Bandersnatch on Netflix last night and what a refreshing, unusual watch it was. If any of you have played a game such as The Walking Dead from Tell Tale games then you'll know what to expect as you make the choices as to how the film progresses and finishes.

Jemima Pett | 48 comments Don't laugh, but I watched The Voice last night. It was so good towards the end, I watchedtwo of the repeats on tv today!
Tom Jones singing "I'll never fall in love again" with the composer's son (a contestant). Wow.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Started The ABC Murders

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Just finished Travelers on Netflix. Wow!, what an ending. If you like time travel science fiction, this is a must watch. Great acting and writing.

Les | 266 comments Finished watching Manhunt last night, very good it was and Martin Clunes was excellent in a role you don't expect him to play.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I watched Marie Kondo's Tidying Up and I think I am in love.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Watched Brexit: The Uncivil War. What an informative drama. It deliberately avoided the rights and wrongs of leaving the EU and concentrated on how it happened and the personalities involved.

Well worth a watch on catchup if the chance is offered.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I gave up on The ABC Murders after 2 episodes, really didn't enjoy Poirot played by someone else.

message 12514: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I thought Malkovich as the older, burned out Poirot was quite good, but the whole production was so dark, with barely a single character to like and root for that it was very hard to like.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Have got to much to watch (even though I only start when they are complete) that I wrote them all down on pieces of paper and picking them to decide what to watch next! Just selected Harrow, looking forward to it.

Lee A. | 29 comments Just watched The Nights of Cabiria (1957).
Is anyone else working their way through IMDb's top 250 films? I still have 23 to go 😕

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Sorry, no. Am enjoying Harrow

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Just seen the last two episodes of the current season of Luther. Blimey, talk about all action! Very entertaining, but violent, very violent.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Finished Harrow last night, didn't end the way I imagined. Will have to pick out the next piece of paper tonight

message 12523: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments I'm 2 seasons behind with Luther - lost track of it!
Enjoying the new Silent Witness though. :)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Good job they are all available on iPlayer

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've 2 episodes of Merlin left to go, Being off ill last week really helped me get through it.

message 12526: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Finished Merlin last night.

A really disappointing ending. I think I would have liked the last episode to have been a bit longer and less rushed.

I didn't get the last scene showing Merlin in modern times. It was just a lorry driving past, him and a wee tower on an island in the background. I don't get what it was supposed to add.

I loved the rest of the series though (despite Richard Wilson's permanently quizzical expression - https://i2.wp.com/celebmix.com/wp-con...) but I wonder if they had hoped to get a sixth series and didn't so had to squeeze more into the fifth to tie everything off.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments I finished watching Titans a couple of days ago. Part of the DC Universe.

Eleven episodes that could have been told in five. Not tedious, but bloody close.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments We watched the first half of the Disney version of The Lone Ranger last night. Meh. Went to bed.

It's been ages since I've seen a film that I really enjoyed.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I am failing at my idea of watching a film every month. Started Burden of Truth last night, enjoying it so far.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Started Strangers yesterday, quite enjoying it. So much starting this week I have no idea how I am going to tape or watch them all!

message 12531: by Desley (Cat fosterer) (last edited Feb 06, 2019 12:20AM) (new)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Finished Strangers this morning, ok but too English for me -set in Hong Kong but even the father and daughter were texting in English - I assume they did it to make it easier but spoiled it for me. 9-1-1 next

message 12532: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Grace and Frankie on Netflix. Could be funnier, but with a cast list of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, plus a ton of star guest appearances from actors of advancing years I can just revel in the immaculate performances.

The Passage, in which the potential cure for a world-devastating plague could lie in a laboratory full of genetically-engineered vampires. What could possibly go wrong with that plan? Not ground-breaking, but OK.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments I'm taping The Passage. Started Safe Harbour on BBC 4 this week, not bad

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Went to see 'The Favourite' - there was a lot of tittering among the audience when the opening titles warned of 'strong sex'... That said, it was all very decorously done. Entertaining, and such fab costumes and furnishings. Very National Trust only without the scones. There were oranges though... I won't elaborate in case you haven't seen it yet. Olivia Coleman was amazing.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Oh, and a quick yippeee as Sewing Bee is coming back to TV, plus Shetland. On at the same time of course. Thank goodness for catchup.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Looking forward to Shetland. New masterchef too

message 12537: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (khardman) | 5 comments Watched "Polar." It was a good action/adventure shoot'em up. (And, of course, it's hard to go wrong with Mads Mikkelsen.)

Haven't watched it yet, but I've got "The Umbrella Academy" on my short list. (I know: I'm a Netflix junkie.) Also looking forward to the new "Hanna" series; I saw the movie and enjoyed it, but I'm curious about them stretching the concept out into a series.

message 12538: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm excited for the Sewing Bee too!

I've started the Marvellous Mrs Maisel on Amazon and it's really good, it looks as thought it is a girlie programme but it is hilarious.

message 12539: by Ben (new)

Ben Bruce | 40 comments Watched the first episode of the new season of True Detective. Really wasn't sure what to expect, as the first series was inspired and the second series was... well, we won't get into that. Happy to say that so far, so good. Felt like a return to the mood of the first as well as a less convoluted plot. Hoping it keeps up with the early promise.

I couldn't get into the first season, so not sure whether to try the other two.

Third season has that same tone, same non linear story telling, so if one wasn't your thing, three wouldn't be either. Two was just a bit naff. Felt like a student project. I couldn't recommend that to anyone.

message 12542: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments If you want to just chillax for an hour, you could do worse than catch up on the film of a drone flight along the Great Wall of China (which apparently is about 16 walls all built at different times - who knew?!). No voice-over, and so quiet you can hear birdsong, a train, a car engine. Stunning stunning scenery. And v informative short clips of text. BBC, it's called A Slow Odyssey. Available for another 16 days. Entrancing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Baptiste starts tonight, looking forward to it

We're enjoying Baptiste, not as good as first series, but how could it be. . Enjoying the latest Endeavours.

I'm enjoying it, but not racing to watch it like I have done with previous ones

message 12548: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments We've managed the first two of Baptiste but think I'll give it a miss, it just isn't convincing. Am sort of into Shetland, so will stick with it. I prefer the books really.
