Hi Anna, Cardinal is definitely worth watching. It has a good mix of a gripping storyline and believable characters. Warning - it's very addictive and you'll probably be pulled into watching every episode of every series! Joy

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I'm making a list which sits beside my sofa and it has three possibles to replace Spooks when I get to the end. Only two more series to go... ahem. Strike, which was on the list, is now being watched. I like the first series, not so sure about the second.

I think Cardinal is a likely candidate for next to be watched, thanks to your good reports.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Well, I nearly watched all of season 4 in a day!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Oh wow! I've been limiting my Spooks to one a night - strictly no more! I tend to watch from 8 -10 p.m. since lockdown. I no longer watch the news!!!

I abandoned BBC television news in 2001 during the FMD outbreak
They tend to get a bit hysterical and dig out 'experts' to prove that things are going to get much worse

I get my news from the radio 4 (a little) and newspapers often read on line

Well, there are only 6 45 min episodes - it was Lucy's fault though, she kept sitting on me, she even made me finish my book on Sat as she wouldn't get up.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments I love my newspaper. When I lived abroad and was asked what I missed most, it was my newspaper. However, I could do without the increasingly sensationalist headings and sub headings.

Oh the times my cat has made me sit longer than I should!

I try and only let her sit on me now when I have something to eat and drink near me, as it can be at least an hour, and she gets aggressive when you try and move her. She has been clingy since I went back to work.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Watched 'What we did on our holidays' last night - BBC 4 iplayer - it was terrific - best thing I've seen on tele in ages. Hilarious. But of course it was written by the amazing Andy Hamilton ( he of Old Harry's Game on the radio) - it's a 2014 film but hadn't come across it before. Billy Connolly is terrific in it (and of course David Tennant... quite a starry cast). The children are wonderful.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I enjoyed that film a lot too Karen. I think it was the last time I went to the cinema

message 12662: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Andy Hamilton was excellent in Old Harry's Game

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've been enjoying iplayer and I signed up for a free 30 days of britbox, as well.

I binged Mr Selfridge and now I'm bingeing Broadchurch.

I like watching BBC news on iplayer cuz I can set it back an hour and fast forward through the rubbish. I watch an hour of news in about ten minutes.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I'm contemplating with Netflix again, but there are so many things on iPlayer and All4 that I either didn't watch the first time or wouldn't mind re-watching (not often I allow myself to do that, but some familiarity in the current climate is good). Hope you enjoy Britbox, I don't think I saw much on there I'd watch

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I have zero patience with adverts, so quickly give up on ALL4 and My5.

We might try Netflix when we get to Spain. We could download everything for free in Myanmar, so haven't been bothered to pay for any subscriptions.

I'm back to watching documentaries on Youtube now, though.

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Ordered the DVD of Chenobyl and watched it over the weekend .... very well acted and set, but harrowing. Learned a lot though.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Chernobyl was good. We watched it a few months back.
Its not completely factually accurate, of course.

I had to research the facts after I watched it, as that's just the way I am. ;)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've discovered Minette walters screen adaptations on youtube.

Quite enjoying them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments How many are there Patti? I'm looking at a 5 story box set on Amazon

message 12670: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not sure, Desley.

Just do a search on youtube and they'll all appear.

Hadn't noticed that, I've read lots of her books.

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments We have just finished watching five series of 'Episodes' with the brilliant Steven Mangham and Tamsin Greig, and Matt LeBlanc of course. Wonderful, had me laughing out loud. Never noticed it when it was on tv.

Caught up with the Beeb's new drama, Roadkill - Hugh Laurie, and Aunt Polly from Peaky Blinders. Can't say I was smitten. It just seemed very stale. Not a patch on the old original House of Cards, or even Yes Minister or the Thick of It. Hm. Not sure I'll bother persevering with it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I was tempted with Roadkill just because of Hugh Laurie, but think I'll give it a miss

I ended up buying it, I enjoy her books

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments Desley (Cat fosterer) wrote: "Glad you are enjoying Cardinal"

Thanks for the recommendation.

I try not to do serial killers - the writers have moved into focusing too much on the killers - but liked Cardinal and the other good characters/actors enough to finish the series.

Good stuff is hard to find. We're picky.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4836 comments We just finished watching all five seasons of Line of Duty. Couldn't stop until there was nothing left.

Don't get too attached to the person who seems to be the 'main character' for a season. And that's all the spoiler you're going to get from me.

Good acting, good production values, interesting story, and I'm never going to trust a police person again.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I love Line of Duty. can't wait to see the new one next year

message 12681: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Line of Duty - me too, watched an episode a night for weeks and looking forward to the latest series.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Watched Roald Dahl and Beatrix Potter today, it was an enjoyable programme, but I was a bit puzzled at it being based on a true story, not something I remember reading in Boy. Really enjoying Nip/tuck, and just on the final season of The Strain, not sure about it though

Les | 266 comments Binge watched The Mandolorian over the Christmas break and I'll say that it's the best thing I watched in the whole of 2020.

message 12685: by Roger (new)

Roger Cave | 129 comments For obvious reasons, not much released on DVD or PFV recently, and the Oscars should be fun this year.

Anyhow, saw Tenet, twice, and I'll probably need to watch again. Much like Nolan's Inception where we're dealing with different levels of the story at the same time.

I enjoyed it, and it's rewatchable (as if there's a choice with this one), but it does mess with your head a little. John David Washington in the lead is a rising star, liked him BlacKkKlansman too.

Ronnie | 1 comments Been watching Channel 5 's remake series of All Creatures Great & Small , what a great job they did bringing this show back . The cast is excellent & so is the writing , loved the original & loving this too

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I have taped that, I was a bit reluctant as I was reading the book when it was being shown, and the synopsis was different to what I was reading, so I have waited to forget some of the small details.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments Watched the first episode of the remake of The Stand last night, quite weird watching a drama based on a flu virus that wiped out billions of people world wide, not sure it was the best timing for release.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Watched Annie Hall last night for the first time. Absolutley wonderful film!

message 12690: by Pam (new)

Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments Watched the Pembrokeshire Murders when that was on, which was very good, and now watching a Scandinavian true crime drama on BBC 2, The Investigator.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I finished Sharp Objects last night, really enjoyed it

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments vI've watched three films this week, which is a rarity (although rather nice!). On Tue I watched To Olivia, the new film about Roald Dahl, which was obviously sad given the subject matter, but glad I watched it. Yesterday I watched the new version of The Secret Garden, it was enjoyable but seemed a bit unbelievable in places, and this morning I watched the remake of The Witches - fortunately long enough since I last watched it to notice some of the differences, but the CGI was a bit rubbish in places - even the cat didn't look realistic!!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12594 comments I watched Black Mirror: Bandersnatch last night, I was really impressed with the 'choose your own adventure' feel - I did love those books as a kid.
