Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Recorded the series but not been watching as yet. I don't really like Dr Who, apart from the series with David Tennant. Even hubby doesn't seem that interested in the new series of Dr Who either.
I took ages to get into Torchwood the first time, I am wondering if it's worth watching tbh...

I have quite enjoyed some of the latest series of Dr Who. Then there was the truly outstanding episode written by Neil Gaiman. A real masterpiece that episode.

Sophie described the last episode of Torchwood as being like Russell T Davies wrote the first episode then went away, ignored all the other episodes then wrote the last episode. Go figure.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I'm not that into it that I can see the difference between the various people who wrote the different episodes, maybe the BBC had to make some cuts and thought that they couldn't afford great episodes every week lol. I do like the variety of characters and the makeup/effects. Took me 5 years of being fed startrek before I got into it, guess maybe with time...

Tim (timh1952) I'm not keen on the new Dr Who at all. It just doesnt seem to grab me the way the Chris Ecclestone/David Tennant series' did. Mind you it took me a while to get used to David as Dr Who. I think it must be an age thing.. I grew up with William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee and so I am used to an older Dr Who (older than me anyway). It's the same with David Cameron.. even if it wasn't for his politics I can't handle a Prime Minister who left school after me.

Tell us if it was interesting, please. I can't get it here, of course. And before anyone asks iplayer and whatnot doesn't work here.

Look for a free proxy and use that. It makes you look like you are in the UK and will fool it into working.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Patti that's Geeks for you lol

My brother studied computer engineering/programming (whatever it was), and I remember the first time he showed me how to go on the internet. He took the mouse, went "you click here", "you log in there" "you do this" "you do that" "and there you go"... the puzzled look I gave him right afterwards must have had a lot of meaning, cos he understood he'd have to explain it all again !

Sharon Goddard Finally got to watch The Social Network last week and thoroughly enjoyed it (geekfest).
I also saw a film called The Kid (initially because Rupert Friend is in it!) - I knew nothing about the book - it was very uncomfortable watching at times. The ending was quite uplifting.

Hey! One of the children at school was meant to lend me her copy all week! That's it. I'm ringing her Mum tomorrow.

Making sure she has extra homework all next week too.

I've been reluctant to watch The Social Network. It's worth it then, Sharon?

i liked the Social Network very much. I did not fully appreciate all the geeky, computer related parts, but its a good film. my boyfriend loved it. he is a software engineer and he was totally amazed with the beginning , the work, and the genius of Mark- facebook founder.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Don't know if anyone watches Supernatural, but I just watched this week's episode in which the demon hunting brothers found themselves in world where they were two actors playing demon hunting brothers in a TV show called Supernatural. Talk about post modern.

It was so very, very funny though. If only all TV shows could be this good.

Hi

We LOVE supernatural, it comes out on dvd a bit later here so I'll only get to watch S6 later this month.

It's awesome if you've been following it from the beginning.

Even though its predictable, it just gives you an couple of hours enjoyement.

It is my nomination for the most improved show ever. The opening season was OK, but at this point it's just amazing how good it is. And so, so funny. In S6 look forward to the Excalibur moment and episode I mentioned.

Oh, I loved that episode, and the one where they think it's alien abduction. Very clever scripting.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I love the big jets. I just curl up with my kindle and many glasses of champagne. What I hate is the two hour Twin Otter flight that I have to do twice every holiday.

Thankfully, they're building a new, bigger run-way so we'll have bigger planes soon.

That's sounds brilliant - I like Eddie Izzard. Is it on youtube? I saw a sketch of his once, years ago on tv, and I've never managed to find the full sketch since (although similar ones or shortened versions) but he was talking about the useless things you learn at school in french like le singe est dans l'arbre (prob spellt it all wrong.) In the end he went around France with a monkey in a back pack so that he could stick it in a tree and say to passers by - le singe est dans l'arbre! (apologies to lorraine for badly remembered French!)

I've found a similar sketch on youtube to the one I mentined before - it's changed and enlarged from the one that I remember, I would love to see that original one again....

Mark Cooper I've just finished watching Gangland from Saturday night - thank fudge for the sky+. I needed to watch something normal as I've been stuck watching Transformers with my 4-yr old. As much as I love watching giant robots beating the snot out of each other it gets abit grating after almost three hours...
