I won't lie, I had excellent grammar when I was young, but now I don't think I could live without spellcheck lol !

Mark Cooper Or when you get typing dyslexia! All the right letters are there...just not in the right order!!! :)

In the film Marnie - Sean Connery's character calls himself a "somewhat creative typist" - I like to use that description for myself!!

Mark Cooper I never have a problem with the names of any Lovecraftian creatures or characters from 80s cartoons...however when it comes to writing a letter to a Member of Parliament my fingers just seem to move too fast for the keys...lol

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments It has been reported that there is a bad case of the 'titters' is going round. Caution it is highly contagious.
I always have trouble with the word diarrhoea (I had to look at Lorraine's spelling three times!) I like to say I've got the squitters instead.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Whenever I type further, unless I'm very careful I type furhrer. Not good when I was working for a German company. I offered to annex the Sudetenland, but it didn't help.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I prefer the German word for diarrhoea - its durchfall, which literally means 'throughfall'.

Vanessa, I worked in the Human Resources department for a large company. Part of my job involved typing the reasons people were off sick in their computerised files. I have typed the word Diarrhoea so many times that I don't think I will ever forget how to spell it. And I have seen many different ways that people have misspelled it. Had a form where one guy attempted to spell it 3 times. They were crossed out and eventually he wrote "skitter". ;-)

I like durchfall. Wasn't that the title of a Dean Koontz book?

Perhaps we should start a scatological thread especially for the purpose? We could call it The Midden. Being as we are in this thread though, may I suggest John Waters Pink Flamingoes?

And don't forget that you might spill milk on whatever it is that you're viewing the thread on...that's always difficult to explain later on.

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Backing up the thread from effluent to Eddie Izzard (not a link I think he'd be proud of) - you haven't lived until you've seen his death star canteen sketch as illustrated by Star Wars lego on You tube.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ahem. Remind me to wash my hands when I'm finished posting here.

I watched the first episode of Downton Abbey last night. It's great! Had to stop myself from immediately watching the second as it was 1am.

I'd put it on now but I have to peck my way through a great, long email first. Ugh.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Lorraine wrote: "Geoff that was total gobbledigook to me... :( !"

Scatological - An obsession with excrement or excretory functions (poo to you or me).

Midden - A dunghill or refuse heap.

Pink Flamingoes - A movie by John Walters where his transsexual star, Divine, ate a dog turd on film. JW was interviewed and asked whether there were multiple takes of the scene. His reply "I wasn't trying to torture him!".

Hope this helps Lorraine. Knowing me, probably not.

I came quite late to watching The Truman Show, but when I did I enjoyed it a great deal. I always get put off when films are hyped.

What was he like at high school...?

We watched two films last night on BBC iplayer - Phenomenon, which I found a bit dull but gave me things to think about (I was convinced until the end that it would be an aliens type thing...) Then we watched one of my fav films of all time - Strictly Ballroom!

The Truman Show is one of my almost perfect things. I loved it from start to finish. Ed Harris is bloody marvellous considering he took over from someone else and learned his lines on the plane.

At the end, my wife said 'they can't stop there, I need to see what happens'. I think she kind of completely missed the point.

By the way Kew, famous film error Krakatoa is really WEST of Java.

Missed this post, sorry Willie.

No. What's a 'Heimat'?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Wow, it just goes to show.

I put a link up to The Truman Show yesterday. You could have grabbed it for £2.49

It was obviously a mistake because now it is £29.99

Did anyone get it?

The Truman Show!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments That's a ridiculous price for an old film. Perhaps they have it wrong now?

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Maybe someone bought it and the Amazon algorithm repriced it thinking it was going to be popular.... how knows!

`Heimat` is a German Drama series about life in one area of germany between 1919 and 2000, it is 53 hours long over 3 series.
It is the best thing i have seen on telly, fantastic.

That's a ridiculous price for a new film. If there was a film that I was going to pay that for then The Truman Show would be in there with a fighting chance.

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Watched Sideways last night. Been a few years since I saw it and I had forgotten how funny it was. Comedies are not usually my thing but I can definitely recommend this film.

Watched a few episodes of Dexter too. Love this series. Am trying to watch series 1-5 before the 6th one starts soon.

Gary Dowden (garydow) | 15 comments I love Dexter and have read the books as well although after the first, they bear little similiarty. I've seen them all on FX but I'm re-watching series 1 at the moment when I have chance. My biggest annoyance was "Liking" Dexter on Facebook and finding out the end of season 4 weeks before it was broadcast in the UK!

Lol I did that too Gary. Wasn't facebook though. I was curious about where I had seen one of the actors before and went to IMDB to find out. I ended up reading some of the discussions and spoiled what happened at the end of season 4. I've been careful about avoiding it since.

Started watching it a few months ago from the first series. So far I am at episode 4 of season 5.
