I thought he was quite good in The Insider. The problem was as soon as Al Pacino and Christopher Plummer came to the camera it put Crowe's acting ability into context and not in a positive way.

I watched something called 'Page 8' recently, it had Michael Gambon and Bill Nighy in it. There's this scene where they are sitting around a table talking to the 'Foreign Secretary' and they were so good they made everyone else look like they'd never acted before !!! It was quite incredible!!

I kept meaning to see it with my wife as she thought that it was great, but it never happened. Will have to look out for it on Sky.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It's worth buying a copy. Both 1 and 2 are £12.49 on Amazon. Well worth the price.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments The Gods must be Crazy is brilliant! and the 2nd one is nearly as good. I was introduced to them by my South African friends and I loved them both.

Yes, I saw Page 8 and enjoyed it enormously. The acting was of a very high quality. Did you also see The Shadow Line that was on a couple of months ago?

I tried to do it in kindlesmellovision, but couldn't figure out how to get the smells to come out of the kindle.

Maybe that's a technical upgrade I can talk Amazon into for the Kindle Surefire6 (hey it's as good a name as any they've come up with).

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments Just finished watching the first season of Breaking Bad. It's brilliant. My new favourite show (well since I am all caught up with Dexter now). The main character is played by Bryan Cranston (I hadn't heard of him before) and he plays an excellent part.

Can't wait for season 2 dvd to arrive in the mail.

A lazy link for anyone who wants to check it out on Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Breaking-Bad-...

message 384: by Shaun (last edited Oct 23, 2011 10:32PM) (new)

Shaun (shaunjeffrey) | 2467 comments No, I didn't like season 1 of The Walking Dead. I had hoped it would improve but episode 1 of season 2 just sucked. The characters are just plain stupid IMHO. Take for example the mother of the girl who has gone missing. As a parent myself, I know I would do everything in my power to find her and sod everything else. The woman in this hardly seems bothered. When the others stay behind to look for her, hell, I'd be with them until the end. Then there was the 'searching in the body' scene. Gore for gores sake as there was no reason for it at all. They wouldn't be able to deduce anything from it. Then there was the cut arm that looked like a main artery had been severed. Then the character is as right as rain the next moment. As I said, it's just not very good. But again, I may be in the minority.

Catalina (katgabriella) | 169 comments Me and my boyfriend have finally got Thor last night and, even if it was mostly his choice, i enjoyed it more than him, usually that's the way it goes. I likes the action, the actors, the lines, except a bit disappointed with the end, felt like needed something more. but all in all, a good film to enjoy

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments I watched 'The Green Lantern' last night. Disappointed.
Could have been MUCH better! And WHY do the baddies have to be so grotesque? Seriously....I couldn't eat breakfast this morning!

Tangled is the best Disney that I've seen since The Little Mermaid. Loved 'em both. (Not a patch on the Pixar ones though. Broke my heart at the end of Toy Story 3).

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The animation of the hair was truly amazing. I recall watching a few years about how tricky it is to animate hair and fur. I think they've made huge improvements in recent years!

You're right about pixar. Their story lines are generally fantastic.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have to skip the first wee bit of Up though. The first time I watched it at home Gee had to turn it off cause I was so upset.

I went to see Lion King 3D in the cinema on Sat it was amazing!! I think it is one of the best Disney films ever and the Little Mermaid is coming out soon in 3D as well! its my favourite so really excited!!

message 393: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ooo I've not watched 'Up' yet. Must ask my mate if she has it. I've been wanting to borrow 'Cars' and 'Cars 2' off her for ages but her boys watch them practically every day and I'd feel guilty taking them.

The Lion King And The Little Mermaid are wonderful!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments We were all sobbing away at the start of Up. A brilliant film.

Have any of you people watched any if the Japanese Anime movies from Myakagi? If not, may I recommend Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro to get you started? Absolutely brilliant films. Once you get started you'll want to see them all.

message 395: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I stopped watching Disneys after Lion King got me crying for days in a row... oh and after we all had to watch Pinocchio twice a day for a fortnight when my brother had chickenpox. Oh and after my ears got shot by a little girl I used to babysit, because she loved singing the Pocahontas songs (she was only 4)...

I would also recommend Ponyo which is absolutely magical and good for all ages.

Be warned, though, that some of them (Princess Mononoke for example) can freak out the smaller audience.

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ooooh I loved Princess Mononoke, but then I was 19 when I watched it lol !

I saw a manga type cartoon once, it was about two kids during the world war or something like that. Cried my eyes out all along... as bad as Disneys...

Maybe telly's just not for me... haven't watched anything for ages... maybe that's why I've been much happier recently !

Sprinkling some love ♥ ♥ ♥
