Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I was supposed to be job hunting back when this movie hit the theaters, but I'd go see it every day for several weeks. Even bought the soundtrack, which rocks.

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments That sucked, Ron. I thought I was going to be taken for a stroll down memory lane by hearing a song from the soundtrack.

message 469: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments I don't have a photobucket account, so would anyone like me to post some pictures of Robert E. Howard's bedroom in the Photo Profile section? I took them last year if anyone has any interest whatsoever.

message 477: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments Thanks, guys. You can see the window I mean right over his bed, it opened right onto their bed.
How she slept, I have no idea. I think Dr. Howard probably drugged her well. REH would yell out his stories as he typed them.

That is insane and I love it.

message 479: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments Well, there's a great book One Who Walked Alone: Robert E. Howard - The Final Years that was made into a movie called 'The Whole Wide World' with Vincent D'onofrio (who's a marvelous actor) and Renee Zelweiger (sp?). It was written by what I guess you could call the 'love of his life' some years later. She always wanted to be a writer, and it turns out that that book would be the only thing she ever published. She does pick his brain about writing some. It's an interesting book. Fairly clumsily written. D'onofrio *really* brings it in the movie. Some of the people I talked to that had known Howard (this wasn't last year, some years back) said that he really had him down pat.

message 480: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments How old is that movie? I never heard of it. I've only read "Pigeons from Hell" by him.

message 481: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments I'll be a gentleman an Google it for ya ;) I own a copy, but it's packed up. Here's a clip with Vincent typing and yelling!!! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpUe7U...

message 482: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments Anyway, according to REH, he got the idea for 'Pigeons' from Black folk tales from East Texas.

message 483: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Thanks, Ron. Very gentlemanly of you.

I just love the idea of typing and yelling. I should try that at work.

I kind of like Howard to be a mystery to me. That movie looks kind of sappy and revealing.

message 484: by Ron (new)

Ron | 373 comments Not as much as you might think. We Howard-nerds get into some pretty heated arguments at our yearly get-togethers, and we think we know it all. The fact is, the more you learn about him, the stranger the story gets...much like Poe's final days. One other thing, since 'Pigeons' is all you've read, is there somewhere here on this board I can post a non-copyrighted horror poem of his I think people might like? Or is that kind of thing verboten?

I was surprised there wasn't a Howard thread in the Authors folder. I would love to read the poem. Post it in the Howard thread. Thanks, Ron.

Never heard of it too but now I want to watch this, along with the more recent Hemingway & Gellhorn flick...but as a kid I was a big fan of Howard's Conan stories...

Lauren (love4leo) | 137 comments So I tried to put a picture directly in the thread and it wouldn't work. is my daughter Addison. She's 18 months (or if you rather, 1 1/2)

message 489: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3233 comments Cute kid, Lauren! I like the name Addison. How did you come to name her that?

message 490: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments She is gorgeous, Lauren! I like the name Addison, too. Oh, reminds me of when my son was a wee babe. *sob* I'm sure everyone tells you this, but they do grow up fast, Lauren. Appreciate every single moment. Like most parents do when things got tough, we'd wish our son to the next milestone and look forward to him growing up and becoming more independent, but then you don't live in the present as much. If I could travel back in time for just one hour to hold him as a baby or watch him as a toddler.

message 491: by Lauren (last edited Aug 31, 2012 06:07AM) (new)

Lauren (love4leo) | 137 comments Thanks, Jason and Tressa. She certainly knows she's cute. And LOVES books! It makes me super happy that she'll bring me a book and sit quietly on my lap or beside me looking at it. I hope she's an early reader like I was. :)

We just liked the name. If fact, I had it picked out before we even knew she was on the way. One of the reasons I picked it was that it could be used for a boy or girl. And I chose Grace for her middle name so she could be more feminine as an adult if she wanted to.

Tressa, she tried to roll over for the first time when she was about 2 weeks old and I physically stopped her and actually said "NO! You're too little" out loud. It took her 2 more weeks to get it right. I burst out in tears nearly every time she does something that moves her to the next milestone. My husband just looks at like I'm crazy and hand me chocolate (lol). RIght now, I'm just waiting for the tantrum stage to level off a little... but then again we've already been going at this for about 9 months.

message 492: by Lauren (last edited Aug 31, 2012 10:32AM) (new)

Lauren (love4leo) | 137 comments I found this picture and it made me laugh so hard! Addison used to make this face every day when she was a newborn. I'm pretty sure it was gas or something, but we called it her Zoolander face because she's like "really ridiculously good looking". Photobucket

message 493: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Haha. She is a doll. She's concentrating on something. What is anybody's guess. I will sometimes find an old pic of Luke and then just go through every one up until present age. Love how the pictures will transport me back to that time. I have a box of his baby clothes and love to smell them. Yeah, I'm a weirdo. So what?

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments I had a cat named Ninja.....he used to cry so much when my daughter went away to visit with her father. He even learned to meow her name (Noelle).

message 499: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1434 comments My cats love boxes. Which caused plenty of problems when we were moving because they would hide in them to ambush each other (they have a strained relationship).

message 500: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments When my other two cats were alive and I bought new shoes, I'd save the shoebox and give them "rides." They looooved it! One would lay in the box and I'd move it in a figure eight pattern on the rug and the others would fight for their turn, actually popping the lucky one inside the box on the head to make her get out. It was great watching them have so much fun.
