Creating Editions

It also wouldn't surprise me if many people, like me, don't realize this when creating editions. This may be part of why combining is so often needed!

It has been requested before. It would be very difficult to add, and would require major changes in how new books are created.

Be that as it may, it surely would not be difficult for the programmers to add a little reminder message that appears after a new edition is saved. Just a little mental nudge that says: "Don't forget to combine your new edition with the appropriate existing editions!"
Even with the Librarians Manual handy, there are just so many quirks like this (none difficult, but often "invisible" to new librarians) that it DOES answer my question of "Why is there always so much repairing of data going on around here?"
I created a couple editions in the past few days and suddenly found out that they weren't combined with the others of that title. It seems like that ought to happen automatically when you start with another edition of the same book to create it.
The fields for the titles and author are filled out automatically.
So why do I have to combine these manually every time? I was going crazy thinking my work had been lost somehow until I figured out that I had missed a step.
