Book 1 – November is National Novel Writing Month The Sea by John Banville, winner of the Man Booker Prize in 2005 (Criteria C), If I were going to write a novel, I would find a desolate seaside area and with pen and paper start pouring out a stream-of-consciousness narrative, just like this book – one of its GR genres is “seaside.” 195 pages

Book 2 – Read a Book Day (9/6) One of my favorite novels is The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, a short novel of psychological/supernatural suspense from the Victorian period. I read another short novel of psychological gothic suspense from the same time period, and with a similar plot (young woman encounters what may be a supernatural force trying to overtake her, or is it the workings of her own psycho-sexual desires?):

As Mr. Sheridan LeFanu wrote his books in the Victorian era, he is now deceased (Criteria B).

5.6 - LABOR DAY - And Thereby Hangs a Tale by Jeffrey Archer.


5.9 - BACK TO SCHOOL - Number the Stars by Lois Lowry which won the Newberry Medal in 1990. What a great little story. I really enjoyed it.


25.8 - GENRE STUDIES - I have more than one favorite genre but lately I have been reading alot of Historical Fiction so that is what I chose for this task. First I read Daughter of Xanadu by Dori Jones Yang which takes place in 13th Century China (Middle Ages from the list provided in the task). Then I read The Queen's Sorrow by Suzannah Dunn which takes place in 16th Century England (reign of Queen Mary I).
