I loved Coraline..... I call myself "The Other Mother" to my friend Joy's kids. Joy has this book to read for her 5th grade class every year and so we laugh every time we both say it.... cause she says the same for my kids.

Then you can rent the movie!

Ginger | 450 comments Out of the 4 books I've read so far this month, only 1 has been a 5 star. Two were 1 star reads and the other was 3 stars. Things have to pick up, right? RIGHT?! Keeping my fingers crossed for this one!
Anyway, I'm now starting Eve: A Novel of the First Woman by Elissa Elliott.

Unnatural Acts
Opal Fire
Cinder
Homicide In Hardcover

These books have bookmarks in them. Hoping to finish all by the end of the weekend.

message 204: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments I have Opal Fire on my Kindle, so I'll be anxious to see what you think of it. Based on your rating, I'll know whether to move this one up on the TBR or down...lol... :)

Opal Fire on my Kindle too! New Female author and a mystery so I'm using it for a challenge. :o) Plus I like witchcraft stuff

;o)

Sandy I am reading The Princesses of Iowa which is a YA book about drunk driving and a group of seniors. An accident happened the summer before their senior year and everything they hoped their senior year to be is not panning out. I am really enjoying it.

Oh Sandy! It sounds really good! Well, not good about the drunk driving/accident, but you know what I mean. I'm adding this to my TBR now. Thanks!

And.... I have a book mark in Me, Myself and Why?

I might have to put that title in for April for the Teen selection! Food for thought on drinking for our teens around here in Avoca.

message 209: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Hmmm....our library & the surrounding ones don't have The Princesses of Iowa....may have to get this one for the Kindle....

message 210: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 617 comments Mod
Not sure our library has it either but they usually get when I put the title in the book club selections.

:o)

message 211: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments That's because you have major clout with them...LOL

message 212: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 617 comments Mod
I don't think so..... but when the patrons of the town start asking for titles I'm talking about.... they just order them.

message 213: by Sandy (new)

Sandy I do think that is called "clout" - ha

The subject of a gay teacher is brought up in the book - just an FYI (don't know how your town feels about that but we did legalize the marriages)

message 214: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 617 comments Mod
I don't care about that..... I'm liberal on that issue. ;o)

message 215: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Sandy, that could be why my library doesn't have it. I saw the 50 Shades books one day & told the librarian I was surprised they were available. She said they were donated & she always tells people that. She said she wanted to make sure they knew "The Friends of the Library" group did NOT purchase them...LOL!!

message 216: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Talk about going from one end of the spectrum to the other...lol...as you know, I finished "Eve" this afternoon. I'm now reading True Evil by Greg Iles. He's a new author to me, but I've heard some great things about him. I have another library book to read which was also written by him, but I'm going to take it back. I didn't realize I'd picked up a book which was part of a series (book # 3). Oh well...

LOL! I love these children books Walter the Farting Dog and our library doesn't have them or at least the other librarian refused to purchase because she didn't want parent's complaining.

They are sooooooo funny! Great books to get the grandkids. ;o)

message 218: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Thanks! Will have to remember that! Maybe I'll send some books to the kids for Valentine's Day!!

I spoke to Dara last night & the book I was going to take back to the library is a stand-alone, not part of a series. I was confused...lol...according to GR, it was part of a series, but the others were written by a female author. Glad Dara was able to straighten it out for me.

Ginger | 450 comments I think Courtney is reading a book to both kids at night. She's sent me some pics of the kids looking at books at bedtime! :)

Courtney read a lot when she was younger, but lost interest. I hope the babies get my "gene" for "love to read"..LOL

Way cool! I had bath books too.... My kids didn't care they were the same ones over and over and over.

message 222: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Last night, I started Cemetery Girl by David J. Bell. So far so good. In fact, it's so good, I can't put it down nor do I want to. The only thing I have to do today is a couple of loads of laundry. I don't even need to cook since we have plenty of leftovers...LOL!!! I bet you can guess what I'll be doing all day! :)

message 223: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments I'm starting Third Degree by Greg Iles this afternoon. When I'm done with it, I should be ready to start The Shack, if ya'll are game and still want to read it.

message 224: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 617 comments Mod
I have several library books to finish and I promised to start book two of A Fountain Filled With Blood..... Lord what a week to have multiple books all calling my name. I will start The Shack just maybe next week sometime.

message 225: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Please don't feel rushed or pressured! Third Degree will probably take me up to Monday (maybe). I can always read something else before starting The Shack, if ya'll prefer. Just let me know. I do know I don't read as fast as ya'll..tee hee!

message 226: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Give me a couple days before you start reading it and I can jump on it. I have just 3 library books left and I am reading a book of my own right now for Ginger's birthday book. So I can start any time.

I know!!!!! Going to try and finish these by the weekend. I will read tonight too cause I don't really watch t.v. on Thursday nights.

Okay, Opal Fire is started, Family Honor is about half done and Unnatural Acts is about a 1/3 done.... so I have those to finish first. Suppose to be a rainy/cold Sunday so I plan on just reading and doing laundry that day.

message 231: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Yes! Perfect weather for reading! They're calling for rain here all day tomorrow & again on Sunday. :)

message 232: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Provided I can stay awake, I'm starting the first book in the In Death series by J.D. Robb. :)

Catch Me by Lisa Gardner

message 234: by Ginger (last edited Feb 19, 2013 08:54AM) (new)

Ginger | 450 comments I just love the chemistry between Eve & Roarke! I love Eve's wit and her personality in general.

I'm also loving the fact I haven't figured out whodunit, but I do have my suspicions. Can't wait to see if I'm right or wrong. I just hope all her mysteries are this good! I've only read books published under Nora Roberts and really enjoyed the "Born In" series as well as her paranormal books.

message 235: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Today I started Glory in Death by J.D. Robb. I think I'm hooked on a new series & this is only Book 2!! :)

Hmmmm I tell them to leave me alone and then they bug me more..... Reason I lose so much sleep at night because they are all sleeping and I can read!

bed 10:45 til 12:50 read 1am til 3am went to bed up @ 6am

message 243: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Good gosh! That's a lot of broken-up sleep!! I hope that's not an every night occurence....I wouldn't be able to function. :)

message 244: by Magpie67 (new)

Magpie67 | 617 comments Mod
yes.... it is but it varies from night to night. Never the same broken time frame... Most often I try to stay up til 1am so I can sleep til 6am but I usually wake up at 5am. Lots of nights I go to bed at midnight and wake up at 3am

I believe my books are trying to wake me up, so I will read them.... ;o)

Mine leaves me all the time with his hunting/fishing hobbies... I think he is glad I'm not sitting by him all the time either... Sometimes when he does bother me.... I ask him if his buddies need him

LOL

I have a paperback started in my purse: If Books Could Kill by Kate Carlisle

message 248: by Ginger (new)

Ginger | 450 comments Hubby has no complaints...as a matter of fact, right now he's glued to the TV watching NASCAR & I'm reading & doing stuff on GR. He says when we're in the same room, we may be doing different things, but we're still spending time together...LOL
