~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments So if he has double vision, does that mean the handle missed his actual eyeball? They don't say he lost his eye, and that is AMAZING if true.

message 4: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Nope. Didn't lose the eye, they managed to save it according to the piece I read in the Des Moines Register.

Mary (merrussell) when my niece was young, she got hold of a knife and fell on it. it pierced the sclera in her eye-luckily did not hit the pupil and she was fine.

Jim | 6484 comments It would be great if you never told a story like that again Mary. Glad she is OK.

Wow. Looking at the x-ray, it's hard to believe. Amazing things happen every day!

Yeah. Who woulda thunk that an 86 year old man would have a girlfriend at home?

I have to say, those girlfriend details are usually the thing I find most astonishing about these types of articles as well. Seriously, almost every day I read some article along the lines of:

"Phineas Mandelbaum, a 50 year old unemployed plumber, had been out of work for seven years and his weight had ballooned to 690 lbs. He hadn't moved from his chair in two years, his girlfriend said. She called 911 when she noticed his chest had stopped moving, yet his eyes continued to stare at the television. Authorities had to tear down an exterior wall in Mandelbaum's living room to remove him from the home."

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments never thought it. i did think if jabbing something in your eye gets you in the news i'll eventually be viral

message 15: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Best girlfriend article in a long time was an obituary in the Des Moines Register. The man's survivors included his wife AND his long-time girlfriend.

message 16: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments What was the cause of death, Cynthia?

message 17: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Probably too much sneaking around. No, honestly I can't recall. It appeared from the obituary that the wife and girlfriend were on good terms, however.

message 18: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Probably had a good deal in common, similar complaints, etc.

message 19: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments You sound experienced in this Jonathan :-)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments Just hypothesizing...

message 21: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments There's nothing like a good hypothesis.

OK, yes there is.

Sounds like Warren Buffett's situation, except that his wife has since died.
