What's your favourite science fiction and/or fantasy read?

Donna | 1350 comments For many sentimental reasons and mostly for the dragons: Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books. Followed by the 40 odd years worth of X-men comics taking up the better part of my "guest" room.

Susanna (jb_slasher) I don't read that much scifi or fantasy. So. For scifi, I'll have to go with Ender's Game . For fantasy, definitely The Silmarillion .

Deborah | 598 comments My all time favorite fantasy read is The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. I read the series in my early twenties and a few more times since then. I loved those books.

Fran Wilkins This is not my favorite genre, however, The Mists of Avalon was one book that I never wanted to end.

Diane | 56 comments I enjoy a liberal mix of fantasy writing in what i choose to read but my all time favorite fantasy read is the classic Merlin serried ( The Crystal Cave, The Hollow Hills and The Last Enchantment) by Mary Stewart.

message 7: by Heathermomo (new)

Heathermomo All time favourite has to be Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Next is Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books.
I enjoy Isaac Asimov and John Wyndham too.

Chris (chrismd) | 408 comments I really liked the Mary Stewart/Merlin series too. Can't say I've really read a lot of sci-fi. For fantasy, I loved American Gods and The Name of the Wind, two gigantic books worthy of every page. I'm also really enjoying the Temeraire series, starting with His Majesty's Dragon.

michelle+8 (michelleplus8) Depends on your definition of sci-fi. I've heard it argued that 1984 is sci-fi, and it's one of my favorite books ever. I love The Chronicles of Narnia, and that's definitely fantasy. Lately I've been reading a ton of Doctor Who books, and though they aren't exactly great literature, they are lots of fun!
