message 2: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) YEPPERS

I am so happy that Utley picked tonight to come out of his slump....I really wish that Howard would do something though.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments me too!! I was fearful that nobody was going to hit anything tonight for the Phillies. Let's hope Howard hits something so that we can solidify this win! :)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments yayy!! game 1 in the bag!! :)

message 5: by Liesl (new)

Liesl (lieslm) | 170 comments Yep. I'm more of an AL fan, but until the Series I'm rooting for the Phillies. And if the Sox beat the Angels, I'll still be rooting for them. Good to see Utley hit that homer!

message 6: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) My dinner plans will likely be either non existent or really late depending on how fast today's game goes.....

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I want to see a Sox vs Phillies series. All east coast. Good job last night Phillies!

message 8: by Renee (new)

Renee I am a transplanted New Englander living in the Philadelphia area. I cheer for the Phillies because I live here and it makes my family happy. I grew up cheering for the Oakland A's, Cincinnati Reds, and NY Mets. Once I moved away from Connecticut, I cheer for New England teams! My biggest fear - the Phillies vs the Red Sox in the World Series. A friend told me that I should find a support group or join the Witness Protection program and relocate in Europe! haha
She's a Red Sox fanatic living in Berkeley CA!

message 9: by Dylan (new)

Dylan (dmfriend26) | 82 comments I'm rooting for the Rays. And Phillies, I hate the Red Sox. So Rays v. Phillies!!!!

message 10: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments Whatever happened to the Cubbies? I don't get much of a chance to watch their games. Don't tell me they folded again.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments hahah Renee..that's funny! :)

message 12: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) They folded in 3!!!!!

I want Rays and Phillies too. The Phils don't handle the Red Sox well.

message 13: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) Who's watching tonite??????

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments ughh i wish i didn't watch tonight! :(

message 15: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) I can't wait til tonight. Philly fever tonight.....Phillies, Flyers and then there's HEROES!!!!

message 16: by Angela (new)

Angela | 64 comments I'm listening to the game while typing this message. Hopefully, they can come back in the 8th or 9th inning and get a win.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments ugh i know! i feel like a freakin yo-yo during this game.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments woooohooo! yayyy victorino!!! homerunnn!!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments is anybody else watching this ridiculousness that they call a game?? (aka the Sox getting manhandled by the Rays) ???

wow. that's all i have to say. i almost feel bad for the Sox. almost. but not quite.

how humiliating for them.

message 20: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) I hope they clinch tonight!!!!

message 21: by Arminius (new)

Arminius Me too.

message 22: by Arminius (new)

Arminius The Phillies win when one of their three stars gets hot. Rollins, Utley and Howard. When one is rocking the team wins. What is so nice about the playoffs is that when the are not hot the others take over. Victorino has been fantastic. Greg Dobbs is playing more and is a hitting machine. Carlos Ruiz has produced. The pitching has been superb and the defense spectacular.

They hit their full potential at the right time.

message 23: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) Rollins performs fabulously in clinching games!!!!! 8:22pm can't come fast enuff!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments i think they are going to win!! :)

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments did anyone else just see Pat Sajack behind home plate?? haha.

message 26: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) YAY PHILLIES!!!!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments yay phillies!! game one of the world series down!

message 28: by Arminius (new)

Arminius YA HOO! Stars of the 1st game -Hamels, Utley, Ruiz, Madsen and Lidge.

message 29: by Arminius (new)

Arminius I did not see Pat Sajak. I did see Senator Arlen Specter when the Phillies played the Brewers.

I also saw Penny Marshall when they played the Dodgers.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments I agree with your stars of the game!!
disappointments of the game---Howard & Rollins. haha big time. they just couldn't perform.

hopefully tonight they will.

message 31: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) Rollins and Howard HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.

The fact that they were 0-11 with Runners in scoring position (and set a new record with that) was Embarrassing

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments i know..seriously so ridiculous..but that is the magic of the phillies this year..someone different always steps it up...perfect example..STAIRS! haha.

message 33: by Diane (new)

Diane (dianedj) I am a Red Sox fan, and hoping the Phillies broom Tampa Bay! Off to a good start!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments jeez..could the Phillies be any worse tonight??!
well..so far.

at least Howard got a hit!

message 35: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) it's not that they are worse, it's that they just continued last night's streak.

Fact is Myers SUX in the first inning and they took advantage of it!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments this is true!
let's hope they start hitting a little better right now!

message 37: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) grrrrr getting frustrated at the stupid mistakes!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments me tooo! i can't bear to watch anymore. I have to get up early for class tomorrow and I'm wondering if it is even worth staying up for!

message 39: by Arminius (last edited Oct 24, 2008 04:56AM) (new)

Arminius They tick me off. They played like they played at times during the regular season which was,a lot of times, leaving runners on base without scoring.

KrisTiEfAyE you are right it is the same as the first game. The only difference is that they played bad last night.

They left 9 men on base.
The second inning set the tone. They had two on and no out and did not capitalize.

Meyers pitched well enough. Blame goes to the unproductive offense and the poorly played defense.

Come on Phillies you have three readers pulling for you!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments I agree!! I was so surprised that Meyers did as well as he did..it really was the unproductive offense and poorly played defense. i was just so frustrated during this game! Hopefully game 3 goes better and they play like they did when they played the dodgers!

message 41: by Angela (new)

Angela | 64 comments Arminius- I agree. When Jimmy Rollins can spark the offense, the tone of the game changes immensely. Werth has been on fire, although Utley and Howard have not contributed much so far. However, the Phillies' defense, particularly in the middle, is always stellar. I was very surprised that the pitching lineup stayed the same in that Moyer usually pitches better on the road and Myers pitches better at home. I'm not sold on the skills of Ruiz as a hitter, although he is good behind the plate. I would like to see the team be aggressive in getting a better catcher for next year. Otherwise, I think that management has done a great job in putting the pieces together. I'm looking forward to game 3 tonight.

message 42: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) Moyer has sucked on the road in the playoffs. Both his previous starts have been at home and he's never made it out of the second. Ruiz is coming through in the clutch. Howard is slowly coming in to his home. We've needed him to hit not just homer and he's FINALLY starting to do that.

Game three will be killer!

message 43: by Sera (new)

Sera The Phillies definitely need to improve their hitting with RISP if they want to win the World Series. I went to Game 1 of the NLCS in Philly, and I had an awesome time. It was a beautiful night, and the Phillies won :)

They are now saying that Game 3 of the World Series will go on tonight at 10 pm EST. It will be interesting to see whether the weather impacts the game.

message 44: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) THANK GOODNESS HOWARD WOKE UP!!!!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments yayyy Phillies!!
I am so happy Moyer pitched so well!
& that some of our hitters (ahem Howard) got out of their hitting slump!

message 46: by Arminius (new)

Arminius Star of the game - Jamie Moyer. He shut up the media harping over his two bad playoff appearances.

Other stars - Chase Utley. Played small ball- Knocking in the first run with a groundout to the right side of the field. Then played long ball- homerun. He is a true superstar.

Carlos Ruiz- Homerun but more importantly he put the ball in play in the last inning. It would have taken a perfect throw to get Bruntlett at home. He did not strike out that was the key.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments I agree..that hit was clutch..he just needed not to strike out.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments I like what I'm seeing so far!!
however..that was a bad call..Rollins should have been out..

message 49: by Kristie (new)

Kristie (spedkristie) I can't wait til the parade!!!!! I know I won't be able to go.....but I wish I could!

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 636 comments haha i'm def skipping classes to go!!
