Her website http://www.emilygravett.com/ has games and resources on it, which could be very useful to introduce her books with.
Hi Alison, thanks for putting up guidelines to using goodreads. It really helped.
I'm glad they helped! I'm proud of that guide. I had to re-learn how to take screen shots to write it!

Here is my review of the thought provoking book The Giving Tree written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein in 1964:

I hope you enjoy it.
Great review, as always! I was delighted to see that some poems by Shel Silverstein that were unpublished at his death have been selected by his family for publication: Every Thing on It

Hi, here is my review of 'peace at last' by Jill Murphy

I agree; the onomatopoeia (tick tock) etc makes it a great book for EYFS- the isolating sound aspect of phonics would benefit. Children could make simple instruments to play along while the teacher read the book.
Hello everyone,

Dr Seuss books are often very popular with children who are reluctant to read. The rhyme and rhythm carry them along, and the wacky illustrations are always engaging!

Great reviews, Helen and Miayruffah. I'm glad you enjoyed Cave Baby's illustrations, Helen; Emily Gravett is one of my favourite new author/ illustrators. Look out for Meerkat Mail! Miayruffah, I remember the joy as a teacher of Oxford Reading Tree after the tedium of some other reading scheme books...

I did find Emily Gravett's illustrations much more agreeable in Cave Baby and was pleasantly surprised to see two such major names collaborating together in this book.
I have seen Meerkat Mail on Amazon and will invest in it as you recommend it.
Thank you as always
You're welcome! Please remember that you don't *have* to buy books, unless you want to, of course!

Children love stories about naughty children- it's sort of wish fulfilment, I think! And short stories mean that confident readers at the end of Y1 can often read them with enjoyment.

Thanks Nasima! I love Anushka Ravishankar's poetry. I like the look of Tanka Tanka Skunk, and I'd suggest Kaye Umansky's Pongwiffy books; very funny early chapter books.
