SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TOO DISTRUBING!

This is a collection of short stories. McEwan is a very talented writer but these stories are so distrubing. I have only read three of his books but wish I had not read this collection of short stories.

First short story Homemade: I liked this story at first. But it was twisted to a very disgusting ending. I was very distrubed when I finished this story. It is about a teenage who has set out to steal, smoke, drink & lose his virginity. Extremely disturbing story.

As with "Homemade" the story "Butterflies" again was along the same extremely disturbing lines. Did not like Solid Geometry, very demented and gross. The narrator ignores/shuns his wife.

Disguises was okay.

I did like Converstaion with a Cupboard Man. It was extremely sad story but I felt for the character. As was the Last Day of Summer was extremely sad. The one story that I actually enjoyed but had a macabre ending. First Loves last Rites was okay. A simple yet descriptive story of love and a marrage hitting the treashold of dying love.

Not his best work that I've read. Again very distrubing. Fraud would have loved to read and analyize McEwan! This is a Fraudian's dream book.

I would not recommend this book as it is just too distrubing.
