What qualifications do you require before you will click that button on Goodreads that says you are a fan of an author?

Is it based on quantity of books read and liked?

How much you liked one book?

Have you ever unfanned an author?

As long as the authors books keep me interested, I'm a fan.

I agree with Debbie....keep me interested and I will be a loyal fan and continue reading!!

Did you fan them after reading the first book you liked or wait until you had read more books by that author?

Most of the time the 1st book, if I like the 1st one I will go on to other books by that author.

I usually wait until I've read a few by the author that I like.

Some authors after the first book, some after a few books.

Normally more than one book before I fan an author, unless I really, really LOVE the book (J.R. Ward come's to mind...I read Wrath's book and it was love...lol).

On the author's page on goodreads, you can click a button to become a fan. I think it's below their profile picture.

It depends on the author and how much I like their first book. If I totally love it, then I will usually become a fan. Or if I found myself very enamored with their writing (moreso than the book), I will become a fan.

There are some writers that I have liked books by, but I haven't become a fan yet. Something is holding me back.

I need to read and like a few books, preferably across genres if the author writes so (like Megan Hart writes erotica and sci-fi).

If an author becomes an auto-buy for me, then I state I'm a fan too :)

I've become a fan of those authors whose books are tried and true and have become a must buy for me.

I'm pretty selective. If I click "fan" then I want to have read several of her books, liked them and plan to read more. Sorta like when I hear a song on the radio, I may like the one song but I'm not running out buying concert tix unless there's something more substantial to the band/artist that I enjoy.Thank God for iTunes. Beats the he77 out of the way we had to buy songs before (ie purchase the entire CD for a song or 2). But that's just me.

I love being able to just download one song instead of buying the record. That would have saved me a lot of money back in the day.

I don't have any set criteria. I fan if I want to see what they have to say or see when the next book is posted to Goodreads.

So far I haven't un-fanned anyone, since they aren't spamming my feed. If someone is particularly busy posting stuff I'm not interested in, I might take them out of the list. So far that hasn't happened, they are too busy writing.

From what I can see, I become a fan after reading a number of books that keep me coming back for me. But I have become a fan of an author after reading just one book. Pretty special books they were.
I've only ever unfanned one author and I think that was Laurell K. Hamilton. So its pretty much a rare occurence.

Usually I have read at least 1 book and *have* to read more then I like the aurthor. I'm an author reader too..if I like one series by them I have to get *everything* they have ever written:)

Lately I'm becoming a fan if I gave the first book 5 stars, sometimes it'll take me awhile. I'm also becoming fans of narrators too. They can make or break an audiobook.

I totally agree with you about the narrator. I'm sorry but the narrator for the GhostWalkers is awful. He practically ruins the books for me.

There are a few I've stopped listening to the book because of the narrator.

If I didn't love the GWs so much, I probably would have.
