London is the setting of a good part of the book I am reading now. When I was there once we stayed in Finsbury Park. Is that close by?

for the record, I am now walking the camino de santiago, my second time, this time with the intention of completing the walk and then finding a new home here.

I live in on a mountain, Whitefish Mountain, which lies fairly high above Whitefish in Montana.

It's good to hear new voices! Welcome all. From many different places to.

I've just finished Anything Is Possible by Elizabeth Strout. It plays off characters in the life of Lucy Barton, star of My Name Is Lucy Barton. I found the book terrifically exciting-I loved every story.

I'm also reading The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone, a non-fiction book about loneliness and its use in art-centered in my own NYC. I'm loving it as well but it's intense so I need to take breaks.

I finished my poetry class so I'm catching up on reading, when I'm not working. The snow storm gave me a great excuse to lay about and read!

What a delightful surprise to see you found your way here MaryAnne! Indeed welcome. I hope you will enjoy wandering the different threads here. You will see that this group has gone through a few permutations, its a safe and cosy place meant to nurture flights of fancy. I look forward to your comments here and suggestions.

I once knew a man who when he retired always had 50 books on a book shelf. When he read a book he would give it away and buy a new book. To choose what to read he had a lottery system, think die that went from 1 to 50. Each book on his shelf had a slot, with a number, and so he would read whatever fate had decided for him to read, whether it was fiction, nonfiction, whatever. Did I tell you he had been a bank manager who had a nervous breakdown and had to take early retirement?

MaryAnne that is too funny. It figures he was a bank manager, giving his power of choice to a lottery! I like the idea of fifty books, read omen replace it. I wouldn't give up the thrill of picking my next book. It's a big choice.

I am more of a squirrel in my own reading habits. I see a list of books, say, Booker Prize, International lit prize, Canada Reads, Book Riot Lists, Electric Literature, Goodreads Friends' Lists, and I make a list of books I really want to read, some listed on the computer, and some listed by hand on paper. I enter some on the Goodreads site as 'want to read.' I start reading one from the lists that I can get right away from a library, and then I forget about the lists, as they are buried in my computer garden or in a paper folder. More lists come my way, and I find another book to read from a new list.
I do find my old lists when I dig a bit and sometimes there are still some books on those lists that I would like to read, and lo and behold they are now available at a library.

Before goodreads I was very random usually just picking books from the library or the bookstore at random or referrals from friends/family and I had a love of classics like Austen.
Now I have goodreads I follow bingo, or sometimes I just go through my to read list on goodreads and put books on hold at the library.
I still read books recommended to me and even the random book I pull off the library shelves.
