That's good to hear Maggie - thank you for that. I do have B is for Burglar (Kinsey Millhone, #2) by Sue Grafton also, since I picked both of the up from the library at the same time - I will stick with them and see how it turns out.

I just listened to this one too and it took me over half of it to get into it. I think because it is the first in the series I cut it some slack.

Hi Ellen, I've listened to all of the Song of Ice and Fire Books on audio. If you want some help keeping track of all the characters, go to www.westeros.org There you will find maps and house banners as well as discussions with other fans - just watch out for spoilers! I loved the books. Hope you enjoy them too.

Wendy T | 0 comments I just finished Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo. This was such an awesome suspense novel. I give this 5+ stars.

I'm starting The Island by Elin Hilderbrand

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 58 comments Finished Paper Towns by John Green and started Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Will be reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix next. Paper Towns was very good but Looking for Alaska also by John Green is even better. I recommend his books to anyone. :)

Thank you! I went to the library to photocopy the list but Game of Thrones has something like 9 people on the waiting list and I was afraid the appendix in any of the later books would be a spoiler.

Karen White (karenwhiteaudiobooknarrator) | 175 comments Just in case you missed my many tweets and Facebook notices or my giveaway – this Sunday’s episode of CSI:Miami not only has a tongue-in-cheek Halloween theme involving an author of a vampire series (played by Diane Farr) but the audiobook version of one of her books holds an important clue! I managed to land the job of narrating of the fictional book (conveniently recorded at my home studio ☺)

Here’s a link to my blog post on it, and a promo of the episode, which I think is hilarious:

Shirley Jackson was my favorite author in high school, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle was my favorite book! Thanks for mentioning this because I think I'd love to reread it audibly! I'm glad you liked the narrator!

message 219: by Wendy T (new)

Wendy T | 0 comments I just finished Bloodstream. This was my first Tess Gerritson book and I have to say I loved the suspense of her book. I so look forward to reading more by this new author for me. I gave this book 4 stars but if GR has half stars, it would be 4.5 stars.

I'm now starting the audio book Prey by Linda Howard

message 220: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie | 2422 comments Finished The Lottery and Other Stories by, Shirley Jackson narrated by, Carol Stewart the narration was really good however I am still formulating what I thought of these stories with no endings.

A little rant about Overdrive I have 5 audiobooks out have listened to them all now I can't get anymore till the due date I wish I could check them back in GRR ....Sorry but I know you all will understand this and feel my pain ;)

I am now listening to Birds of a Feather by,Jacqueline Winspear narrated by, Kim Hicks enjoying both story and narrator!

Wow, that really is evidence of the differences in tastes. Ruby Dee is the narrator who hooked me on audiobooks.

message 223: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1185 comments I know from the reviews on Audible that I'm one of the few who didn't care for her narration. I found myself focusing more on it than the story.

I felt that she was being over emotional and I don't care for that style. A contrast would be Night by Elie Wiesel. I didn't listen to the audiobook, but the book was so chillingly devoid of emotion that it really drove the horror of what happened home.

I'm now starting Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares

message 227: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3921 comments I've started Revenge of the Spellmans, third (of four) in the series. Ari Grayson narrates this one instead of Cristina Moore, and she's far inferior, IMHO. Rather than the voice of Izzy, I'm aware it's a narrator, with each "he said" coming through clearly, not melding into the reading. At least Cristina's back for the next one (from Audible)!

Its reminding me alot of Rose Red but I know this one came out long before Stephen King's book wondering if he just stole alot of the ideas or was paying homage?

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 58 comments I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I have Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows waiting to be listened to but I also have Night Pleasures and I am trying to decide if I should take a short break from Harry Potter and listen to that since it is only about 10 hours long and the Potter books are over 20 each!

message 241: by Tess (new)

Tess | 31 comments I LOVE the Harry Potter series!! We listen to them every time we have a long car ride. My kids (who are 5 and 2) love them. We've only listened to 1-4 with the kids, they start to get too dark after that for a 2 year old...and a 5 year old for that matter!

message 245: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 295 comments I finished Jane Eyre, read by Susan Ericksen, the book and performance were wonderful. I just started The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. I am listening to the Librivox group read, and reading the book on my Kindle when I don't prefer the reader. Some aren't too bad, for amateurs, and I really hate to complain at all, since they are freely giving their time for this service. But some of the accents make it hard to listen, at least for me.

message 246: by Wendy T (new)

Wendy T | 0 comments I finished The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. This was such a captivating story. I loved this book. I gave this book 5 stars.

I'm now starting the audio book Daring to Dream by Nora Roberts

message 247: by Joy H. (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 44 comments I'm currently listening to the audio version of Audition by Barbara Walters. I'm finding it much more interesting than I expected it to be. Barbara Walters knew so many famous people and through her we get a glimpse of those people's lives as well as her own. This audio version is read by Bernadette Dunne whose voice is very pleasant to listen to. Somehow she transmits Barbara Walter's personality in a very likable way. There are 21 discs altogether.

Maggie, I also struggled with this book, and I agree - authors should not do their own audio books. The story has an interesting concept - and there is something that happens in the book that is very odd - I read this one for one of my groups and I will be interested in your thoughts after you finish it.

MissSusie | 2422 comments I have a finished a few books since last I posted I finished The Haunting of Hill House by, Shirley Jackson narrated by, Bernadette Dunne I didn't enjoy this one as much as I was hoping to I liked We Have Always Lived in the Castlebetter. The narration by, Bernadette Dunne was very good and will watch for her name in the future.

Also finished The Wake of the Lorelei Lee: Being an Account of the Adventures of Jacky Faber, on her Way to Botany Bay narrated by, the incomparable Kathrine Kellgren I always liked this series but love it even more on audio Katy is so perfect as Jacky I just wish the new book would drop on audible!

I also finished Neil Gaiman and the Twitterverses Hearts, Keys, and Puppetry again narrated by Katherine Kellgren this is the best of two worlds colliding and highly recommend this unique little story!

Now I am starting American Godsby,Neil Gaiman I ended up getting the Full Cast 10th Anniversary edition narrated by,Dennis Boutsikaris, Daniel Oreskes, Ron McLarty, Sarah Jones.

Over on LT we are doing a Neil November group read of anything he's written so will be mentioning more Neil as the month progresses.
