i read this book and want to seee if there is more, but I can't remember the name or author. This is what I remember:

Young charater (wealth poor) find himself at a school for magic, has a run in with someone who allows entry into a library. heads out on a mission and finds a whole family that has been killed...

I know it's a bit vague but that what I remember!!
