What Are You Reading Now?

I've been hearing good things about that one, let me know what you think of it.

I haven't read anything else by her but I loved
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.

I am almost 2/3's of the way in. The language is beautiful and at times it has me laughing out loud. I do find I have to really pay attention and not let my mind wander. It is a bit of a work out to my brain. I am enjoying it overall.

I might add that my last read was Roses Have Thorns: A Novel of Elizabeth I by Sandra Byrd. It was excellent- on of a series of Ladies in Waiting.

This is how I'm feeling. The book came in the mail today. I read a few pages, enjoying the writing but remaining utterly confused.

Now reading

This has been a lot of fun and I'll carry on to find more titles.

Gosh, I love Goodwill. Totally my favorite Atlanta "bookstore". The books here are only $1.50 paperback and $2.50 for hardcover. You picked up some great finds.

One of my favorite things to do is to go into used bookstores and just search for treasure. Sounds like you found a great selection. :)

This one talks about Marcella, a 25 years old woman, divorced, artist but, above all, looking for love. It is a first narration and we go from the present to memories of the past. It isn't romance, on the contrary, there is a lot of sex but never vulgar because Marcella is able to love only giving herself completely to a man; it is also full of interesting insights. I am liking it so far and it is set where I live so I recognize the places!

I had planned to read this for Austria and I think I will still do that.
But most of the book is set in the Czech Republic when it was part of Austria-Hungary.
I was intimidated by the 750+ pages at first, but then I saw it had these little drawings in it. It is pretty fun.

I read it a few months ago (in the original French). I liked it too. Ironically, the style reads like a translation from an American book. I guess that was the point but it took me a while to get used to it.

What's the French title? Did you get the book via Amazon?

It's this one: La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert.

As Dely already said: La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert. I live in Quebec, so I borrowed it from my public library. :)

It's this one: La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert."
Merci! Je lis un peu de francais. Peut-etre je peux trouver ce livre quelque place (please excuse any bad French in the preceeding message ; )

Service! Ton français n'est pas mauvais :D
I have read that this book will be soon translated into English. If you don't find it in French you must only be patient and wait a little bit.

Started If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino and I am liking it so far (read only for chapters).

Meave Binchy is one of my favorite authors.
You might try Morgan Llywelyn. Start with 1916 and read them in order.

Good stories, and good history.

How far are you into it? I got halfway and that's the farthest I've ever gotten into a book and seriously considered abandoning it. I have been forcing myself through the last of it. I have the last 10% to go. I think I'm just missing the point because frankly I have no idea what the book is about.
