Hi guys,
Great to meet you all!
I love reading books set in different parts of the world so I can learn more about various cultures. Right now I'm reading a book set in Senegal - it's Scarlet Skies of Savannah, a novel written by a Russian volunteer doctor in Africa. She spends pages describing details of Senegalese culture and customs, both good and bad ones. While not a romance per se, it has a wonderful love story in it, too.
Next on my list are rereading Wide Sargasso Sea. Oh, and I have a question! I'd love to read the English translation of one of my most favorite Georges Simenon's novels which in French is called Quartier Nègre (1935). I knew I saw the English title somewhere online - I distinctly remember the title is translated differently, but now I can't remember it,therefore can't locate the book! Any ideas? I looked through Simenon's bibliographies but couldn't find it :(

I've also just started A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian, which I'll read at a faster pace than Les Mis.
I'm reading THE BETWEEN by TANANARRIVE DUE. I'm in Florida.

and I'm just starting

Welcome to the group, Tavie! Your book from Senegal sounds very good. Georges Simenon has written so many books and many of the titles translate differently. Could the title you are looking for be
Black rain or Dirty Snow?

hi Tavie
I just tried to find the book you listed for Senegal and it doesn't seem to be available any more - do you happen to know why? It sounded interesting

I've never read Honore de Balzac. Have you read a lot of his books?

No, not at all. I had read a lot of years ago Eugénie Grandet but I don't remember a lot about it; and now I have read Sarrasine and it was not bad though I prefer other French writers.

I'm currently reading "The Nº. 1 Ladies Detective Agency", which takes place in Botswana.

Thanks! I'm taking note of all the new books I want to read. As soon as I finish a work project, in about 2 weeks I'll read the day out :D

Deadly Night

then for humor
the hundred year old man who climbed out of the window and disappeared

Welcome to the group, Pia! I have enjoyed the books I've read from that series.

I loooved Wide Sargasso Sea much more than I liked Jane Eyre actually!

I really liked Shanghai Girls and everything else I have read by Lisa See. Your book about the sperm whales sounds fascinating.

Now, I'm about to start

The author is from India. I shelve my books by the setting since I am doing this challenge, but I have noticed that some people shelve the books by where the author lives.

I'm planning to read

Now I'm reading

I'm also reading

And I'm reading The Awakening, but not for this challenge.

I just finished his book The Fault in Our Stars recently and love it. I hope to read this one next.
