message 51: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Hey guys!! I made up some challenges while I was away! I'm gonna post them once I'm all caught up so I'm not overwhelmed! haha. This group is going great so far! So glad we made it to the featured groups page!! :D

So glad your back Tegan, can't wait to see your challenges☺

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Welcome back Tegan!

message 54: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Removed the genre folders from the Master List area. It wasn't working. Now I'm trying to get people to post their own folders with their favorites linked in them by genre. Posted my own as an example. This way people can update their list on their own as they add to it. Maybe it will work. I'm also trying to keep the listopia list updated. I need to add some more to it and maybe alphabetize it. The randomness of it now is driving me crazy! ☺ Any ideas to make this area more useful?

message 55: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Thanks for the welcome back guys!! I posted (almost all) of the challenges I made up! The ones I didn't are the monthly and the seasonal ones. :)

message 56: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments For next year's Monster Challenge, Should we leave it as challenges that start after Jan 1st or should we include the challenges that start at the end of this year? Maybe after November or December 1st? What do ya'll think?

I'm going to start cleaning up some of the threads on here...Jen, you have so rocked lately while I dropped the ball...Thanks to all of you that posted challenges and kept this group going♥ If there is anything you guys have noticed that we need or things we can get rid of let me know and I'll get to work!

message 58: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments It's no problem. Being without a computer sucks majorly bad and I would've nutted up if I had to go very long without one.

I've been trying to keep the ones I've started going and cleaned up. Archiving them at the end. I try to keep them updated at least once a week...some of them are daily. If there's anything else you want me to do just holler!

message 59: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments May is Zombie Awareness Month...we need something fun for that. =D Any ideas?

message 60: by ~Jennifer~ (last edited Jul 31, 2012 07:18AM) (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Updated the Mini and Yearly Challenge Indexes. Cleaned out the folders a bit. There were a few in there that had ended. Some I stuck in 2nd chance and others just got archived. We may need to weed out the 2nd chance folder, too. Revived the Hero challenge as well.

Whoo Hoo! You're on fire! I was thinking that any of the challenges ran by Tegan we can go ahead and Archived...she plans on coming back so when she does she can always restart them or just do new ones, but for now there is no way to keep them updated.

Don't you dare, I love it! And if there is anymore you want to change even the ones I did I'm not married to any of them, I was just trying to be clever...trying... 0_0 lol!

Jennifer can you let me know what challenges you do on a regular basis? I know most of them I just don't want to leave any out when I'm setting the Mod "Jobs"...and are there any that you want anyone else to take over or host on occasion? Like maybe the scavenger hunt? Totally up to you ;)

If any of the other mods are interested in some of them let me know. I'm not attached to any of them really. I do like doing YWMTRW and my little mini's & monthly so maybe not those.

message 67: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I was thinking of doing a Mod Challenge. Like a monthly group read, but it'll be a book we, the mods, vote on. Maybe have a challenge question or three to prove they've read it. It could count toward their Monster challenge as a monthly or even a mini. I'm still thinking..so thoughts?

OR we could just make a Mod Challenge section and each mod post their own monthly challenge. We could use theme's or just free-for-all it.

message 68: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I like the idea of the Mod's picking a book and doing it as a group read/challenge. I was thinking doing a group read would be a good idea so doing this way still keeps it as a challenge!!!

I will go through the challenges and such in the next couple of days and start breaking it down...in the mean time I'll ask the new Mods if they want to do the Scavenger Hunt so they can start on it... and we can announce the new mods tomorrow as soon as I hear back from both of them

Hey Denise and Jenne! Glad to have you on board :) to get started can you guys stop by the "meet the mod thread" and add a post introducing yourself? I opened the thread up so you guys can add it and then I'll close it back up so others can't post.
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/6...

I'm getting the group responsibilities up and going and I'll let you know when I everything listed. Do you guys have any monthly/Mini or ongoing challenges that you are thinking of hosting at the moment? No pressure I was just going to add it in the responsibilities if you do:) but they can always be edited in:-)

message 70: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I'm excited to get started. I'll run over to the meet the mod thread in a second. I don't mind taking over the scavenger hunt thread either. I think it would be fun to do a mini challenge each month where you list 3 or so items and everyone has to find one book that covers all of them. Also I participated in a team scavenger hunt challenge. This has been a lot of fun and I want to set up a challenge here that is a team effort. The biggest thing is just making sure the participants understand it would be a group effort. What do y'all think of doing something along those lines? Maybe something like Words with GR friends and calling out a "word of the week" and each team member has to read a book that starts with one of the letters then at the end of the week your team would have the word spelled out from their books.

message 71: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Ok guys I updated the Odds & Ends Index. If one of y'all has time would you check it and see if it's ok? Thanks!

message 72: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Jenne the Index looks great! And if your interested I'll put you down to host the next Scavenger Hunt!!!

As far as the Mini Challenge that sound fun:) You can do it however you see fit. and the group challenge I think could be really fun...I have seen groups do similar challenges and everyone seems to like it, but I haven't wanted to take that on yet, so if you have ideas then YAY!!! Let me know what you need from me!

I know Jennifer was talking about starting a Mod selected group read (see message 67) and I really like that idea too:-)

I can't wait to see the group get more active with the new challenges!

message 73: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Sounds good, I'll get the scavenger hunt up an running by the 3rd week of this month then. I'll work the kinks out on the team challenge. I like Jennifer's idea too.

Sorry, took me a bit to get back to you - I'm on holiday in Germany until tomorrow and spent most of the day running all over Berlin. XD
I love the mod-pick group read idea!
I'll be heading over to the Meet the Mod thread next and will work on putting together an Olympics-themed mini challenge (tomorrow, if I can manage) and start on the ideas I put in the mod application thingy. Anyway, I'm excited to get started! :D

message 75: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Denise, no worries, and there is no rush...enjoy your vacation!!! When your ready to get started then you can go to the Mod Responsibilities thread and I'm slowly getting stuff put together there:) And you can do your challenges whenever it works for you!

message 76: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I was thinking about the group read challenge. Tell me which one you like best, please.

1) 5 mod chosen books - 5 new mini or monthly challenges each hosted by a different mod.
2) 1 mod chosen book - 1 monthly mod chosen challenge only and we rotate each month
3) 1 mod chosen book - 1 mini/monthly mod chosen challenge AND 5 mod specific challenges. The specific challenges would have to be completely unique each month. We could decide on 5 different types of challenge and then rotate them each month. If we do this though I/we would probably have to revamp the Monster Challenge next year to include it. This year though they could just use them for the mini and monthly sections.

I've been trying to think of a name instead of just calling it Mod Challenges, and the only thing I can come up with factoryish is "The CF Foreman Assignment List" since I googled factory duties and that was the only thing that made sense. I'm not married to it so if you have something better please tell me.

Hopefully, that made sense. =/

message 77: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I like the first option it would offer more of a variety IMO? I love the name Jennifer!

message 78: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Or maybe "Hard Hat Area"...

message 79: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I like #1 also...I think it would be a good way to have a variety of genre's and books...If we all discuss it before hand we could try and be as diverse as possible! Would the "challenge" be the same then for each mod?

As far as the name goes I love it! And I know what you mean I was using google to help me name the folders the other day and I was so frustrated! If you guys have better names for any of the folders PLEASE let me know!

message 80: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I was thinking of adding a Challenge Folder for Spell it out challenges...like Spell the Month...or A to Z basic challenges like that...I know they aren't that original but people seem to like them. any suggestions to maybe make it a little different? Or possible names for folder? I was going to have a mixture of monthly mini, seasonal, yearly, etc...

message 81: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Also I am going through Tegan's challenges and if they are still popular and being used I am making a new thread where people can copy and paste their challenge...I am doing the The "I've Gotta Finally Read This!" Challenge and I was going to revamp it a litte (but mainly keep it the same) but I was going to rename it "attack of the TBR" but then I couldn't remember if we already had that...Jennifer I know you had the Bottoms up but it's a little different...is there one already in place I'm missing?

message 82: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Nothing that I recall atm...

message 83: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Jennifer I made two new threads in Mini

Around the World
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

and

Attack of the TBR (Formally know as The "I've Gotta Finally Read This!" Challenge)
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9...

I will move Tegans to archives later this week...just letting you know for Index purposes

message 84: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I like the spell out idea those challenges usually have a lot of participants.

message 85: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I have it updated. The link for Alana's Based on a Book challenge isn't working. I'm going to wait a day or so and see if it fixes itself.

message 86: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I have the Assignment List thread up with everyone's section started. When you decide on your book feel free to delete my comment in your section and take over. I'm going to get mine going sometime today. Do we want to start with a mini-mini challenge since the month has already started or just wait and get it rolling for September. I'm game for either.

message 87: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I've been thinking on the team challenge idea & this is what I keep coming back to. Let me know what y'all think. It would be like scrabble/words with friends. The teams would be divided equally & the word length would be the same as the number of players on a team. Once a week a "word" will be called and each team member has to pick a letter from the word & read a book, author, or series that starts with their letter. I.E. lets say the word is happy then each member picks their letter & reads a book that fits. You'd get points just like scrabble each letter has a point value. To be fair when it's time to pick your letter I'd have to say it's on a first come first serve basis. At the end of the challenge the team with the most points wins. What do y'all think?

message 88: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Sounds good to me.

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I've had Book Bingo on my list of things to do for a while now. I'm trying to work up the energy to go make the boards. =/ I think maybe Classics first? Or should I go with something more 'fun'? Or just do a genre type board first?

message 90: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments That would be fun Jennifer I think classics or genre would work.

message 91: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I made one that was Young Adult since someone asked for a YA challenge. I've made it very diverse. It has a few classics on it, some horror, some romance, basically a little of everything (I think).

message 92: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I think everything is looking good with the changes. :D!

message 93: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

Jennifer I'll stop by the Mod challenge and see what you have going and get the monthly folder updated...I think the updating is going to be pretty busy for awhile! (YAY)

Okay Jennifer so I checked out the Forman challenges and I'm really excited!!! But just to establish some guildlines because I don't really know exactly what I need to do....

We each pick our own book (I got that part! lol)
We will each host a monthly challenge based on that book/group read

Now here is where I need help...

First are the challenges going to be the same just for different books?
And give me an example of a group read challenge please!!!
I know you mentioned doing a mini challenge since we stated a little late and that is prob a good idea especially since it's the first month and we are working kinks out!

Okay I think that is it1

Grrr. when I went into the forman thread and un froze it and deleted you message and tried to make a new post it deleted the entire thread!!! I don't know what I did wrong but I just set another up the exact way you did Jennifer.

message 97: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments You can really do whatever you want with it. I posted mine. It's an ongoing challenge until the end of December. A new book each month. To 'complete' the challenge you have to participate.

Wonderfully warm and sunny (she said, staring morosely at the grey clouds in the Finnish sky). XD And well, it's home, so for me it's always nice to be back, see my family and friends there. I just noticed again how beautiful my hometown Potsdam is in summer, too. :)
