Sarah | 13814 comments I have a ticket to see Sherman Alexie speak tonight. I've read a handful of his stories but none of his books. I liked the movie Smoke Signals. Anybody seen him speak? Is he worth going out for?

Koeeoaddi (koee) FWIW, I'd go. I think he'd be engaging and probably very funny.

I listened to him read the audiobook of his Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian and thought it was great. Never been to one of his speaking dealies, though.

Sarah | 13814 comments He's all over town this week, between tonight's talk and the Baltimore Book Festival and the National Book Festival and another talk downtown since one of his books was one of those all-city-reads.

I will probably go, but I'm dragging a bit today.

Mary (merrussell) You will have to tell us how it goes.

Sarah | 13814 comments I had to go down to the bar, unfortunately. I'll try to catch him this weekend.

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Sarah, see him when you get a chance. And do buy his young adult novel, "Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian." I also adore the short story that was the basis for "Smoke Signals."

John Wayne's teeth, ey-yah, John Wayne's teeth...

Riya (riyaishere) I hope the smoke signals book was better than the movie. I cringed the whole time I watched the movie, and hubby didnt like the movie either, even though he is Native American and lives in Spokane. Im pretty sure the Denny's restaurant that they showed in the movie was the one where they found that serial killer Duncan at a few years ago. Pretty scary stuff.
