Nikki Boisture | 121 comments just how big a bookaholic I am. I was on my library's website, placing holds on some books. And I realized I have my library card number memorized. Now that is scary!

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I have it memorized too!

Nikki Boisture | 121 comments Hey....why do you have MY library card number memorized???

Just kiddin'....I know what you meant :)

message 5: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I have mine memorized AND I have my husband's logon info !!

(We are all a bunch of reading kooks, but it's so nice to be in a group of them !!!)

message 6: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments LOL! Hahhaa, isn't it fun?

message 7: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I have mine partially memorized, but I have my due dates memorized no matter how many different dates there are.

I wished my BF would like to read fictional books. He only likes non-fiction stuff which I find boring. That's why I like TNBBC cuz' I can let my inner nerd/geek run free. lol

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) The due dates - now that I can't do. The library has my picture up on their wall as a serious offender! LOL

Abigail (42stitches) | 360 comments Wow Fiona is that for one book?

message 10: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) lol@Fiona

message 11: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments OMG I have had my library card memorized for years.
I refuse to get a new one because I don't want to have to memorize again.

Fiona...that is so funny.
We can help you remember! Use us as your reminder.
We can have a Fiona Reminder thread where you can post all your due dates and we can send you messages to remind you.
Just a thought....

message 12: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments LOL, Or to remind everyone, so Fiona doesn't feel the spotlight being put on her.

message 13: by Liz M (last edited Oct 14, 2008 07:42PM) (new)

Liz M See, the reason my library card number is memorized, is because I can renew my books online. Every 3-7 days, I log on, put MORE books on hold, check my outstanding requests, and renew the checked-out books. And there is no limit on renews, as long as another patron doesn't request the book. There was one item that I had renewed seventy-nine times (ie had it for upwards of a year) before I finally felt guilted into returning it.

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Wow!!! I renew a lot too.

message 15: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Boisture | 121 comments Liz, that's the same reason I have mine memorized. I always place holds or renew online. I'm lucky that my library sends me an email reminder 3 days before the due date and then again on the actual due date. My library system has hefty late fines, so I'm really appreciative of those reminders!

message 16: by Linda (new)

Linda | 887 comments Ooooooooo, Nikki. That is one for the books. No pun intended. You are lucky. Our library is rather archaic. You actually have to put foot in door and ask the desk person to put a hold on a book. They don't even have email alerts when the book comes in. Had to pay $.30 for a postcard. This is the 21st century, right?

message 17: by Tisha (new)

Tisha I WISH I had mine memorized, because its a pain finding my purse and looking for the card every time. Ugh....

message 18: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) | 1045 comments I also have my card number memorized, because I use it so much. There are no due dates or fees in our library system. However, you can only renew a book twice. A lot of people keep it until they are done with it and then return it to the library. I must admit, I have done that a few times. I just don't understand why, if there are no fees, why we can't keep renewing it until someone else wants it. Then you take it to the library, so the other person can have it.

message 19: by Justine (new)

Justine (paperbackheart) I wish I had a library card number to memorize. I had some *issues* that involved never returning books - I'm probably not ready for that kind of responsibility again anyway.

message 20: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments I have a collection of library cards!!! I just always go immediately and become a member when I am moving to a new place...and I moved a lot already!

message 21: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Wow, Liz I wish I could renew that many times. I'm only allowed up to three times. I also renew online and since I do it quite a few times I have the card number and dates memorized. Our late fee is 10 cents a day, so if I go over I don't care much. However, when you have a couple of books it adds up fast.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 21 comments I have my library card memorized too. And I'm constantly putting books on hold that people recommend to me or that I've heard of. It's great. I always just walk into the library, return a bunch I've read and then just pick up my holds at the counter without having to look around. Takes 5 minutes from leaving the house til I get home. I love it! I'm going now in fact lol. Picking up the book after Blue Bloods and City of Ashes which I was just told is good :)

message 23: by Liz M (new)

Liz M I suspect if my library ever puts a limit on the number of renewals, it will be partially my fault.

message 24: by Liz (new)

Liz (busy91) I don't have mine memorized, but I have it somewhere where I can cut and paste it into the required spot. Sarah I agree with you about being able to just pick it up without having to search. It makes life easier.

message 25: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 163 comments I had mine memorized until I moved last year. But my Christmas wish list this year consists of books.

message 26: by rebecca j (new)

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments I don't have my number memorized because it's not necessary at my library. I live in a really small town with a great library system. They know my daughter and me by sight, and put our number in the computer without us even having to have our card. As for renewals, we rarely have to and we can just call them and have it renewed. The best part is, they are always asking patrons to recommend books to buy, so if they don't have what I want, usually they will get it eventually. You would think this would make me buy less books, but there's that whole reluctance to part with one I loved issue!
