Mark (mark-s) Pretty much all eBooks now a days.
Hard to hold & flip pages in physical books without a lot of pain, but I do occasionally still read one every once in a a while.

I don't have an ebook reader in physical hardware form, but use the kindle app for pc and other software programs instead, so I read ebooks when I am at home and printed books when I have to leave the house, at the bus while driving to my working place, for example. I estimate I read more than 5 ebooks for every printed book.

Mehmet | 1241 comments I have increased the amount i read on the kindle, but if possible i always buy the actual book. I prefer to read a real copy, and use my bookmark, which i grown so attached to. When i find it difficult to find a copy, or need to save money or space i will buy the kindle copy. I have got over the initial trepidation of reading the kindle. So know i just take turns depending on my fancy.

MjA I'm probably 75/25 for ebooks. There is literally an entire library right in your hand, very convenient. There are a books I can't get on my ereader (kobo) so I will buy the physical copy.

Seb | 147 comments I buy only ebooks by now. I almost exclusively read in english so I have to import books to France if I want a physical copy. Last time I chose to buy a paper book, it took four months to come (the covid really doesn't facilitate the international purchases)...

Taylor (taedur) | 96 comments I do about half/half. I'm a librarian, so it really depends on what format I can get my hands on first, lol. I enjoy ebooks because it's much easier for me to get ARCs (especially for horror), and I really like being able to highlight stuff in ebooks to look back on as well. New book smell is radical, though, and I always love the way physical books look on the shelf.

I got myself a proper Kindle Paperwhite three years ago and I am fully convinced. Logic indicates the added mobility probably should have shifted the scales even more in favor of the E-Books, but I think the 1:5 relationship is still accurate. Probably hadn't much space left to grow, anyway...

Ann Schwader (annkschwader) | 159 comments I'm on my third Kindle (Kindle 2, Oasis, Paperwhite) , which should explain things! Still, I do buy some hard copy books for archival reasons (ebooks probably aren't forever), & I'll read whatever format seems to work best for the book in question or is most available /reasonably priced. I'm also a fan of Audible books.

Marie | 4029 comments I use to read physical books all the time till I eventually invested in a kindle fire back in 2014. Since then I am on my second kindle fire and kindle books are the only ones I read. I do have some physical books, but I mainly read on my kindle. I can turn off the lights and read my kindle in the dark. :)

Andrea Thomas (athomas0925) | 15 comments I still love reading from a regular paper book. however this year I upgraded my Kindle from the first Gen reader to the paperwhite and it goes with me everywhere. typically the books I read are large, and having the small Kindle means I can slip it in my pocket without an issue.

LTJ (ltj81) | 2000 comments I used to read physical books all the time as a kid, teenager, and young adult. Thanks to portable devices, I switched over to just reading through the Kindle app. After a few months of getting back into daily reading, I recently invested in a Kindle (2019) and am so glad I did.

It's hard to explain but I'm reading a lot more now that I have a Kindle, probably due to not getting distracted from other apps and it being so portable. I work from home and being able to have my little Kindle next to me to pick up and read a few chapters is great. I was hoping some new Kindle models would have been out by now but no such luck, so I got the regular Kindle for now since it's all I need and then some.

Besides the books I already own, I don't see myself ever going back to physical books. I prefer reading on my Kindle or my iPhone/iPad if needed when traveling or on the go.

Carl I. | 608 comments I’m happy to see this thread still getting a little attention. I mostly read on my Kindle these days. Well, with the exception of the books I am reading for/to my students.

message 165: by Yunie (new)

Yunie (sweetopheliac) | 36 comments I read a mix of both. I love physical books and will check them out from my library or buy them. However, I tend to only buy books that are hard to get or ones that I know I will love and want to collect. That being said, I try to buy physical books secondhand if possible.

With Kindles and e-books, there are a lot of pros. Reduces clutter, typically books are cheaper and it's portable. The main ebooks I tend to read are the ones available through Hoopla and Overdrive/Libby. But I have tried the Kindle Unlimited and it is a nice way to get to read books.

All in all, nothing beats the feel of a physical book in my opinion.

Lena 🐭🫧 (bibschko) I 100% agree with you, I also try to buy books second hand. Besides that I sell books which I don't wanna read again or I just don't like anymore.

Yes, the Paperwhite is a wonderful small size. It actually feels a lot like a Real Book, especially if you get the right kind of cover for it. I like Fintie covers -- inexpensive & good quality. YMMV, of course.
