Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Dewey's 24-Hour-Read-A-Thon happens twice a year and its almost time to participate once again!

When: October 22nd Noon (GMT Time)
Who: People all around the world who love to read
Where: Anywhere and everywhere (join the fun online!)
Why: Because who couldn't use a day dedicated to reading.

I participated in the April read-a-thon and it was a ton of fun. Every hour they put up a mini-challenge and give away great prizes for those participating. I won 2 ARC books last year that turned out to be great reads.

Check out the website for more info and to sign-up: HERE

On that note, I will be participating, anyone else?

message 20: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I did it last year even though I had to work for 8 hours of the day. It's just fun, no one cares if you're not reading the whole time :-P

message 21: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments That's what I figured! It seems like previously people have had a great time, so I'm still planning to participate even though I have to wake up early and won't be able to read for a majority of the time.

message 22: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Hey Jex, you finished a book already!?

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Hehehe I'm reading hereafter. What are you up to now?

message 25: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments About to grab a new book off the shelf. Finished reading Hereafter up to today's spot...trying to decide whether to continue or not because I don't think I want to get too far ahead.

message 26: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I finished a book and starting on another now. let me see how long I plug before I fall flat. It's difficult choosing which book to read next!

message 27: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I'll be honest...I look at my shelf and grab the one that looks the smallest :-P

message 28: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Vi, what are you reading? Try Kate Daniels series?

message 29: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I started reading a bit late. I was supposed to start at 8AM but I started at 11:30 right now I'm reading You Against Me

message 30: by Amy J. (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Anomander wrote: "Vi, what are you reading? Try Kate Daniels series?"

Read and loved. I'm trying to catch up on challenge reading - so far on my second book. How are you all doing?

Vi | 1758 comments Jex wrote: "I'll be honest...I look at my shelf and grab the one that looks the smallest :-P"

Ah, good one Jex. I'll give that a try for the next book.

message 33: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Hey Sashana! Hows your book? And Amy, is Bourne Identity boring? The power's back so I'll start on my second book..

Sashana Anomander wrote: "Hey Sashana! Hows your book? And Amy, is Bourne Identity boring? The power's back so I'll start on my second book.."

It's going good. It reminds me of Return to Paradise. I'm thinking that maybe I should have started off with a smaller book instead of diving into 400+ pages.

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Jex wrote: "I may have fallen asleep reading. Now that the naps out of the way. Time to continue Bite Me (A Love Story, #3) by Christopher Moore"
*giggles* How is it?

message 40: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments I haven't been able to read for the last few hours, but I did wake up a 7 to begin reading! Right now, I'm reading Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick . I think it's a great one to start off with, because it's pretty addicting!

message 41: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I'm reading Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead and I'm finding myself constantly putting the book down. Of course, me being sleepy could also be the cause (its 3 AM here). I'm probably gona hit the sack once I finish the book.

I'm thinking of starting a series - I've shortlisted due to their availability:
Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Elantra, #1) by Michelle Sagara West Mistborn The Final Empire (Mistborn, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Eon Dragoneye Reborn (Eon, #1) by Alison Goodman Fool Moon (The Dresden Files #2) by Jim Butcher Trickster's Choice (Daughter of the Lioness, #1) by Tamora Pierce

The Jim Butcher book is overdue for a read though. Has anyone read the Michelle Sagara West book?

message 42: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinecarroll) I finished Discovering (Lily Dale, #4) by Wendy Corsi Staub this morning and started Dexter Is Delicious (Dexter, #5) by Jeff Lindsay

message 43: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Congrats on finishing something, Erin!

message 44: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Isn't Bloodlines by Richelle Mead too? Keep giving up on that book again and again!

message 45: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Time to take a lunch break and turn on an audiobook. My tummy is growling.

Been reading Bite Me and I honestly cringe whenever Abby becomes the narrator again. She's all valley girl style and starts every paragraph with 'Kayso...

Amy J. | 686 comments Anomander wrote: "Hey Sashana! Hows your book? And Amy, is Bourne Identity boring? The power's back so I'll start on my second book.."

No it's not boring but I feel behind when I see other people have already finished books. At close to 600 pages its taking me a while.

message 47: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Oh boy..600pages? Good luck, Amy! :-)

I had that issue last read-a-thon. Read books that were too long and read way too slow due to having to work as well. I think I finished 1 book last time.

message 49: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments Who's still up?

message 50: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I'm up after a good sleep. I managed to finish Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead but barely. I'm off to do the dreaded job of picking the next book.

Btw, Anomander, I loved Bourne Identity. It was the first "adult" book I remember reading when I was 15 from my father's bookshelf. It's a bit long but engrossing read.
