Fantasy Book Club discussion

I am just wondering what everyone has on their plates for the current month?

I seem to be stuck in reread mode, having decided to reread the Wars of Light and Shadow in preparation for the release of Initiate's Trial at the end of the month. BTW, the first chapter is posted at Paravia.com if any of you want to read it!

Will also be rereading Royal Assassin with the fantasy series group. Will join the Beyond Reality group's read of the third installment of the Honor Harrington series.

Aside from this, in my OCD habit of always having an audiobook to listen to when I can't actually sit down and read, I have several mysteries lined up, as well as The Lord of the Rings, which tome I have never read. So am looking forward to that. Also plan to finish The Gate of Ivrel and possibly start The Faded Sun Trilogy. I have a shameful # of books piled up and waiting for me... I'll get to them sometime, I reckon.

It's the first of October, so of course I'm starting A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny. I'll be reading one chapter a day, as usual. I expect I'll find a couple more 'facts' buried in the lunatic scavenger hunt. I usually do, although I've read it many times.

I've acquired a whole stack of books (literally; they're piled up next to my bed) in the last couple of months that I hadn't had time to read because of deadlines so I'm working my way through those! Just finished Magician, currently reading Assassin's Quest and the next few will probably be The Shadow Rising, A Clash of Kings then Eragon.

I should finish up House of Chains tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Then comes The Man With a Load of Mischief (a re-read for me) then Ghosts of Manhattan. I also need to get to Reamde: A Novel

Currently I am reading Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb.

I've started Eden, enjoying it so far.

Gonna read Prince of Thrones with group and re-listen to Eragon, Eldest, and Brisingr to prepare for last book release in November.

Still reading Shadowrise , after which I'll finish the series with Shadowheart . I'm going to be visiting my parents next weekend, so I hope I'll have enough time away from electronic distractions to make some real progress; I forgot just how much of a commitment these epic tomes are.

Reading Starlight and Shadows trilogy to help get me back into the world of the Drow so I can be ready for the new Drizzt novel coming out on Tuesday.

Trying to finally finish the Mockinjay, so I can move on and start another book!

About to finish up Catching Fire and The Maze Runner, after that I will be hitting Absolute Midnight and finally getting to Ready Player One.

Hoping to get a hold of Absolute Midnight soon and start it.

Mercy, those are some scary sounding books! Did you enjoy Half Broke Horses? I read The Glass Castle and loved it.

Loved both Half Broke Horses and The Glass Castle.

Cool! I didn't realize that the third Abarat book was actually out now -- another series I need to revisit soon.

I have a few books from last month I need to wrap up. Neverwhere, Flashforward, Ready Player One, and Perfect Shadow: A Night Angel Novella. I have a ton of school work these next few weeks but hopefully I'll still get plenty of reading in.

Ditto. It was a wonderful story, and there is an additional layer of awesome to it if you happen to fall into a certain range of age. (I hit 10 in 1980 and exited to 20 in 1990, so I fall squarely into the nostalgia zone for this book and enjoyed every moment of it.)

Couldn't agree more on Ready Player One. I was 14-24 in the 80's...and really hitting some of these games at the right time. Ernest Cline did a great job reaching into my past for sure. I devoured this book in like 4 days.

I am reading the first chronicles of Thomas Covenant; about halfway through the 2nd book. Also reading Kiss The Girls and Nightmares & Dreamscapes. I plan on reading the Hunger Games trilogy this month, too.

I've heard good things about that book.

I discovered Carol Berg last summer when I read her first book Transformation in just a few days. I really enjoyed the story and the characters.

I'm now reading Revelation, the second book of the series, and I'll continue with the third book, Restoration.

I've already bought two books of another series by the same author, that's how confident I am in her work!

I am reading Wasteland of Flint, which is the best thing I've picked up in quite a long while. Certainly this writer deserves more notice!

Ah, yes, Thomas Harlan -- I completely agree, although I still need to read Wasteland et al. Have you read his Oath of Empire series? Highly recommended to anyone who likes large-scale military fantasy.

Currently reading the Hunger Games. Glad that I finally found a copy at the library, now I will see what all the hype is about.

I found it just ok. Never bothered to read the others.

I'm still finishing "Harry Potter" & just started reading "Forget the Past" by Claude Nougat. Really grabbing so strongly recommend.

Just finished Shadowrise and am immediately jumping into Shadowheart .

I just finished The Son of Neptune and now am reading Truthseeker to be followed by Wayfinder by C.E. Murphy. I also have a TON of library books on my kitchen sideboard (The Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Finnikin of the Rock, and The Girl of Fire and Thorns to name a few) waiting for me...lol...we will see what I get too. Sometimes I go a little crazy with Inter Library Loans...so many books so little time!
Oh and I finished Hammered by Kevin Hearne...SO GOOD, cant wait for book four!

I finished it yesterday and I loved it too! I wasn't born until '89 but I grew up on a lot of '80s music, movies, television shows, etc. so I had fun with a lot of the references. I'm also into video games and rping so that made me enjoy it even more.

I also finished Flashforward which I liked a lot. There was one bit at the end I wasn't a fan of, but it redeemed itself and was great as a whole.

Next up is Prince of Thorns on Kindle and Foundation's Edge!

I just finished reading the second book in the House of Night series, Betrayed, by P.C. Cast, which I enjoyed. Now, I'm about to start reading Across the Face of the World by Russell Kirkpatrick.

I'm currently reading David Gemmell's Legend and am completely blown away by how good it is. Will probably move to Daniel Abraham's Long Price Quartet afterward.

On the indie front, I'm enjoying Andrew Kincaid's Strange World after loving Dark Paths by the same author.

I just started reading Mistborn by Sanderson, and I also downloaded via Kindle the first in the Wheel of Time series (wish me luck!). I plan on breaking up the heavy stuff with some good ol' Terry Pratchett.

I am in the middle of reading two books, The Wizard Of Praliand of course The Great Hunt one is for Ereader and travel and the other is for bed :)

Does that include his new book in the Discworld series, Snuff, coming out tomorrow?

I'm in the middle of I am Number Four, and I just started The Rolling Stones last night. I'm waiting for The Singing to come in to the library so I can finish that series by Allison Croggon.

Oh I dont know that I will read Pratchett in any sort of "order" haha. Mostly as I can get them lent to me by friends. I would like to read them all though, yes, I've always liked him as a person and author. I feel I'll need a substantial break between WoT books.

And I think its so great that he is still writing!!! Snuff! Hmmmm!

Right now I am reading The Silver Pigs for a local mystery book club. The characters are good so far but it doesn't give me a sense of ancient rome.

My last few reads were Throne of Jade, Black Powder War and The Desert of Souls. Throne of Jade marked a dip in quality for the Temeraire series, but I enjoyed Black Powder War as much as the first in the series. The Desert of Souls was a really fun book.

Next up I'm readingThe Hobbit for the first time ever.

Wow, hope you enjoy The Hobbit, is one of the books that got me into reading. It is the only book that I have read more than once, truly a great read and very enjoyable.

I've dropped Prince of Thorns and I am reading Exile instead.

Just started Disney at Dawn part of a YA series set in Walt Disney World.

That's a fun series. My dad is reading that now. He's not a big reader at all, so that it's kept his attention for this long is a good sign. I still need to get the newest one.

As for what I'm reading. Just finished Reaper's Gale. Great book. I'm really enjoying these Malazan books. I started Royal Assassin yesterday. Not too far yet, but so far it's been interesting.

I should be getting Tiger's Voyage in the mail today. I may have to drop everything to read this one. The others have been quite good.
