Lauren I cant wait until they make a movie of it but I cant understand how they are going to do the noise...

Erica Danielle wrote: "I purchased the book with an alternate cover. On this cover it was Viola, Todd and Manchee running. Its hard to tell because they are just black shadows but he could be I guess."

That was the cover I had! Maybe that's why I picture him as a retriever.

I'm reading this series again! I just had to! I love/miss it so much! And now as I'm reading, I'm remembering how much I love Todd! I love him like he's my best friend. This series, plus The Maze Runner are definitly my favourite. The best in the world. Ever. And they can't be replaced. EVER.

нαιℓєу OMGOMGOMGOMG I THINK IM GONNA CRY! IM SO HAPPY!!!! THIS BOOK WAS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES!

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

They're going to stuff up the Noise. I can feel it.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
THEY ARE GOING TO RUIN IT I'M NEVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO READ THAT BOOK AGAIN, A MOVIE WILL KILL THE BOOK AND NOT GIVE IT THE RESPECT IT DESERVES.

message 207: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I agree. You can't make it work with all that Noise

message 208: by Nannah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nannah Geez, let's just calm down okay? If you go into the movie with that mindset of course you're going to hate it even if it's freaking awesome.

We have NO idea what they're going to do. So don't assume the worst, my god.

Movies and books are NOT the same medium people. Can we rename this discussion as "Movie hate?" or something. Some people actually want to discuss the movie, not how much we're going to hate it when it comes out.

message 209: by Harold (new) - rated it 3 stars

Harold Smithson Personally, I'm optimistic. I'm hoping that the movie will be awesome.

Mia;emma wrote: "i didnt enjoy this book so i wont watch the film.."

HOW?

Kirinomari Yeah, How about we discuss things that they might leave in or take out of the movie?
Like the Noise. It seems not that hard to do, I just pictured the same noise you hear in a crowded room, add a few sound effects and you're there.

I guess it would make sense if most of the movie was narrated by Todd since you can hear the noise either way. I wonder if the screen writers might try to get around that.
I loved that. Todd would be in the middle of describing something then all of a sudden Viola says "I heard that" Or goes ahead and answers him without warning. It was so funny. ;-)

This story is so well put together, I can't think of anything they might want to take out

message 213: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG I read a book called Blood Red Road in my school library today.... the writing style is EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO! All the 'aint's' and the 'yers' and the way he writes.
Like this.
Exactly the same.
Exactly.
No difference.
None.
In fact, the writing looks almost as if it were coppied right outta the book! Read it and you'll see what I mean! :(
And the author is from england... same with Ness.

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG THIS BOOK IS AMAZING I LOVE IT THANK YOU PATRICK NESS I LOVE TODD MORE THAN ANYTHING THANK YOU FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL AMAZING BOOK.

Katie wrote: "noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo..."

In this case, I think you're wrong. A movie won't ruin this book for me, nothing will. I love it way too much to let some movie of it ruin the book for me. I love Todd and Manchee and that's all I know so I can't stop loving this book, no matter what.

Including a movie that might not work out.

But I'm excited for it to happen, and I hope it does.

Kristen Tarzwell Am I the only one who thinks that movie makers need to start coming up with more original ideas rather that taking books and putting them on the big screen? I rarely think the movie version is as good as the book but i will admit i loved this book so much I'd probably check out the movie and be excited about it anyway

message 217: by Joanna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Joanna Ok I never read all the comments, only the first few so I don't if this has already been said but I think they can capture the correct POV and noise if they always use Todd as a voice over. It can work but they must follow the book and be creative in how the do it. As for characters. Todd is meant to be 12-14 years old so:
Todd:Colin Ford, Quinn Lord or Chandler Canterbury (who is playing lead role in the book to movie of The Host)
Viola:Chloe Grace Moretz or Elle Fanning

message 218: by [deleted user] (new)

i reckon manchee should be a golden retriever i always gained him that way and for viola i reckon isabelle fuhrman might do a good job I don't think she is that known either and she played clove in the hunger games so she is not a girly actress

i agree with colin ford but not the other two for todd

wouldnt they still have his Noise going all over the place, so that in the movie you'd still hear his thoughts and everything? just not as loud or something so that you can still hear him speak and viola and everyone. his toughts would be like a whisper except for when they got a very important thought: when he was thinking of Viola catching the Noise-germ and possibly DIE!, right?

Meghan Radigan YES!!! So excited!!!

message 222: by Morgan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Morgan Okay I'm really terrified about how this movie is going to turn out... I've become pretty cautious of adaptations recently :P
however, I'm still curious as to who they'll cast
Just wondering: am I the only one who pictured Todd with shorter light brown hair with a bit of a red / auburn tint? And Viola with long white blonde hair and bangs? I don't know why I pictured them that way... But for some reason that's how they've always been to me :P

Zeterniouss I imagined Viola the same; i dont really know how to picture Todd >.<

message 224: by [deleted user] (new)

I imagined Todd with blonde hair and big green eyes, and Viola with blue eyes, pale skin and light brown hair

I imagined him like that too, only with dark hair.

Oh no... I really hope they dont mess it up. I can see them over-romancing Todd and Violas relationship and Im not too sure how they will portray the Noise, they would have to have a buzz through the whole film. They will probably make Todd and Viola older too, 16 Im guessing. I suggest Charlie Rowe or Colin Ford for Todd, if they are going for a teenage Todd rather than preteen. I like Anna Sophia Rob as Viola but she is too old, 19 I think and I imagined her with dark hair, but her face matches. Maybe Maisie Williams.

Sinead wrote: "deleted user wrote: "How did people imagain Todd? I imagained him shortist and pretty thin, not too strong but strong enough, big blue green eyes and blond hair that covers his ears, and a bit mess..."

Nah Annasophie not Viola for me, nor Maisie Williams because she's too young I think. And I am glad you imagined him same as me (:

And I like charlie rowe better

message 227: by [deleted user] (new)

But that's just what I think.

message 228: by [deleted user] (new)

I imagained him shortist and pretty thin, not too strong but strong enough, big blue green eyes and blond hair that covers his ears, and a bit messy. And I don't know why I imagianed him that way, but when I think of Todd a boy like that comes into my mind :/ I don't think anyone will imagain him that way like me, tho??

Lol yeah that's what I said ages ago and I still think so.

Maise Williams is about 15 isnt she? Around the same age as Viola in the Knife Of Never Letting go, she was only 13 or 14 when she crashed, she does look very young though.

Oh sorry, yeah you're right. I knew that I just forgot, she just looks too young lol but I don't know

Zeterniouss well, actually Viola was 14 in Old World years. because she says Todd and she are the same age. shes fifteen in the Ask and the Answer(which i dont think i like due to Mistress Coyle; honestly, id rather be on Mayor Prentiss' side.)

Jadwiga Actually Viola was 13 when she crashed New World, I read it in a short story that tells Viola's trip to New World. Todd was about to turn 13 in New World, so in Earth that would be 14 years. They were about the same age, but not exactly the same...

message 233: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah I read the prequel too wasn't Viola just having her birthday or something? Well yeah and omg how could you rather be on Mayor Prentiss's side anything is better than that sick bastard.

Jadwiga Well, I certainly wasn't on MP's side either, but I kind of feel sorry for him.... Just imagine what would it be like to be him and listen to all that noise... But that's not excuse for killing his own son.

NO NO NO DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR HIM HE'S THE REASON THE WHOLE WAR STARTED IT WAS ALL HIM HE CHANGED TODD KILLED CILLIAN I HATE HIM.

And poor Davy :(( I mean sure he was a retard but come on he wasn't THAT bad, was he? Not that I like Mistres Coyal either, but I deff hate MP more.

Jadwiga But we don't know his background, maybe something happened to him before that made him act the way he did. At the end, he's also human, someone who makes mistakes just like everyone else. He was just trying to find peace. I'm not saying that what he did is justifiable, but I still feel sorry for him.

message 237: by [deleted user] (new)

I can never feel sorry for him. I forgot, did he die in the end? I know Aaron did but did Mayor Prentiss?

Jadwiga Yeah, he walk to the water ant the giant fish ate him

message 239: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh yeah that's right. What a way to die. Serves him right.

A Random Kid Chyna wrote: "The director of Harry Potter should direct this one... cuz then the movie has a better chance of being phenomenal!!"

Unfortunately it's not being directed by the director of the Harry Potter movies it's being directed by Charlie Kaufman

A Random Kid Maybe the noise could be words on the screen and when there's a lot of noise they can make the screen covered in words :D but then it would be hard to see the movie ._. Nvm

Unfortunately? I've done some research on this guy. He's written Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which some people claim is the best movie of the decade. He's topped Roger Ebert's list of the top 10 best movies of decade as well with Synechdote, New York, which he directed. This guy is great.

Zeterniouss After wat he did to viola I no longer like him, and wat he did to Davy. He's crazy and insane.

And, I said old world years, not new world. I was stating that she certainly was 13 new world.

message 244: by [deleted user] (new)

Omg poor Davy!! I came to like him in the end and what Mayor Prentiss did was just so sad made me cry :'(

Jadwiga I cried too..:

message 246: by [deleted user] (new)

I mean.... Davy wasn't an angel, and certainly wasn't Todd's friend, but he didn't deserve to die. He was just a kid after all, like Todd. I kinda saw it coming though. I expected MP to act out like that in some way.

Jadwiga I didn't expect it at all... I was in shock! And he was just a kid... Trying to make his father proud... Trying to figure out what was right or wrong, who to believe in, what to believe in... He was just a kid who wanted to be loved... To be part of something...

message 248: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes he wanted to be loved and approved by his father. I wish I could shoot mayor prentiss myself.

Jadwiga I don't know... I feel so bad about Dave... But then I don't know... I feel sorry for MP too...

message 250: by Lloyd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lloyd Unlike most, I'm NOT excited at Hollywood getting a chance to butcher such good books. I'll probably pass. I was originally excited about The Lightening Thief being made into a movie, and was quickly reminded how Hollywood can take a great story or idea and just turn it to crap. The only good news I see from this is that it will give Patrick Ness a much-deserved wider audience. He deserves it.
