Sybil
question
Is Sybil real?
true story of a young woman named sybil, whose childhood was so harrowing to her that she developed at least 13 different personalities. and now we call it "schizoidism" i think.

Yes. Her real name was Shirley Ardell Mason and her story was also dramatized in a film by the same name in the 1970's starring Sally Field and Joanne Woodward. You might be able to find it these days on DVD or video at the library or in a video store. I read it a long time ago, and it was a real page-turner. Another book with the same theme of multiple personalities is The Three Faces of Eve, also a very popular book at one time, if you're interested. I read them both. I think "Eve" was a movie, too.
I got this book from the library but was unable to read it. It's on my list.
I read both Sybil and Sybil exposed. I am curious as to what evidence you use to justify the position that Nathan's research is not to be trusted? While practitioners might be characterized somewhat differently, scientific psychologists are quite skeptical of the story and the disorder as depicted in the book.
There's a new book out called SYBIL EXPOSED which argues that Shirley made the whole thing up as a bid for attention from her therapist, who in turn cashed in on the story.
