We're going to take MATCHED a quarter at a time over the next four weeks, and this week is all about Chapters 1-7!

Below are some questions to get us started in our discussion:

1. Do you think you could be happy being Matched? Are there any aspects of our current society that reminds you of the Matching Ceremony? Could Matching happen in our future?

2. How do you think Ky’s information got onto Cassia’s microcard? Was it intentional or a mistake? Who do you think is Cassia’s real Match?

3. Why do you think Cassia’s Grandfather gave her the piece of paper? What do you think he hopes Cassia will do with it?

Anna (annajarzab) | 1 comments Sometimes I have to wonder if having a Matching system would be so bad. I mean, obviously it would, removing free choice and all that, but still...and is it so different from online dating? Sort of like online dating but better? Surely they could at least improve online dating and then make it opt-in. I think that's a reasonable expectation of the future.

Rebecca | 2 comments I think Cassia's Grandfather hoped that Cassia would have the strength to do what he never did and rebel in some way against the limitations the Society places on its citizens. Even though he never did anything with the poems, I don't think he would want Cassia to just read them and keep them for the rest of her life. It's as though he is trying to give the next generation the tools they need to make a difference.

Audra (avintageidea) | 7 comments I think that in a way, I could be happy being Matched. It could be less stressful than actually navigating the dating scene. While I could be happy, it's not something that I would want to happen in our future. Sure, it could make dating less stressful, but if the government chose our partners, where does it stop? Do they choose how many kids we have? Where we live? What we eat? The thought of actually living in the Society is terrifying!

I have a theory behind how his information got onto her microcard and the Matched system, but I don't want to reveal it in case it's spoilery for Crossed!

I think Grandfather saw something inside Cassia that she hadn't seen yet. I think he had hope, that Cassia will see what is wrong in the Society, and maybe she will have a chance to do something about it.

Angie Perez (angie1013) One more thing, those posts are really old.

Suzanne Richardson As odd as it might be, I think certain aspects of life (for everyone) would be much better if we were all matched. Less fighting over boyfriends/girlfriends, happier marriages, less stress. It would also cut down on depression, I think, to either know you will be with someone or to know you will be single while also knowing it's not your fault and nothing is wrong with you.
