Dave Russell especially the scene with Bush!

Are you talking about the scenes with Pres. Bush or the scene at the "bottomless" party?

Or was that just in the unrated version?

I saw Baby Momma today. Still don't understand what you people see in Tina Fey, despite 2 hours of cleavage and booby shots. My sister gave it a really good review, too, so I was expecting much more than reproductively challenged Baby Boom updated for the millennium.

Greg Kinnear: really? His career isn't out of steam yet?

message 153: by Gåry! (new)

Gåry! (garyneill) I have the cure for this inexplicable poison called Twilight. It is Let the Right One In . Twilight does the genre such a disservice, I'm happy to see a story in this vein (no pun intended, arteries are preferred I'm sure) of such substance brought to the big screen.

It is a story absolutely beautifully shot, respectful of the viewer, and intelligently told.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yeah, I really want to see that one, Gary. I hope it makes it to Olympia.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hey, I just noticed that Religulous will be showing at the Olympia Film Society on Christmas week. Gotta love the timing on that one!

But does it have cute boys in it?

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 347 comments I've heard nothing but good about Let The Right One In. I hope it shows up here sooner rather than later.

Gåry! (garyneill) Sarah, unfortunately for you and apparently a whole gaggle of GR females (and - most likely a guy or 2), it does not have any of those cute boys to blind you to the brilliance of the film (or in Twilight's case, the shortcomings.)

;)

message 159: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Yeah, the cute boys are pretty much the only reason to go see Twilight.

I haven't read it or watched it, but this made me laugh:

Sarah (songgirl7) I really like this one, with the missing sex scene.

Oops, forgot to post the link.

ROBERT PATTINSON

Don't be stupid. All of that lore is far too interesting for this movie. Being a vampire just means I get superpowers. It's like being Spider-Man, but sexier. Also, I sparkle in the sunlight.

KRISTEN STEWART

So that's why why your family moved here, because it's always overcast!

ROBERT PATTINSON

That's right everyone, this whole movie is a two-hour-long setup for a joke about the Pacific Northwest.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"That's not rain, it's just good ol' Oregon sunshine!"

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Northwesterners ALL sparkle in the sun! It's our pale, pale skin, after all the cloudy days we get all year round!

Okay, okay, not "sparkle", exactly. More like blind with our fish-belly whiteness...

message 165: by Cyril (new)

Cyril That guy in Twilight is supposed to be cute? What's wrong with his nose?

message 166: by [deleted user] (new)

Not cute.

Julie | 568 comments Sarah, that missing sex scene made me laugh so hard I cried.

message 168: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I watched Boogie Nights again last night for the 20th time. I adore that movie. Ahhhh-DORE it!

message 169: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I finally saw "Burn After Reading." I liked it a lot...Brad Pitt did a great job, and I don't get to say that often. Plus...Tilda Swinton...damn.

message 170: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I have Burn After Reading on the way from netflix. Can't wait.

Do you like Tilda Swinton, RA? I do too.

message 172: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Heck yes I do, Sally. highfives

message 173: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I don't dislike her, but I think there could've been a better choice for that role. And for George Clooney's role. AND for Frances McDormand's role. That should've been another triumph for the Coen brothers, but it just fizzled for me b/c of the poor casting.

Brad Pitt was great, though!

message 174: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. I was mostly bored, except for the times where I was a little creeped out.

message 175: by [deleted user] (new)

Are you attracted to Tilda Swinton, RA?! I think she's a good actress, but I am mega-creeped out by her as a love interest!!!!!!!!!! GROSSSSS!!!!!!!

message 176: by Jackie "the Librarian" (last edited Dec 25, 2008 10:09PM) (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Gotta agree with Sarah on Tilda Swinton. Great actress, but she has a definite creepiness factor.

message 177: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell I was creeped out by Brad Pitt's make-up.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yeah, I've only seen the trailers, but that was enough for me to agree that Brad Pitt's makeup in that movie is unsettling.

message 179: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 25, 2008 10:57PM) (new)

I liked that movie. I kept waiting for it to get awesome, though, and it never reached the tipping point. Brad Pitt was hilarious in it, though.

message 180: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh no, I meant "Burn After Reading."

I've never gone to the movies on Christmas.

message 181: by RandomAnthony (last edited Dec 26, 2008 04:24AM) (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Re: 189/190: Whoo yeah. Creepy in all the right ways:)

I think Mindy has a point about Frances McDormand's role in Burn After Reading. I had a hard time getting past the "That's Frances McDormand in a Coen brothers movie" thing; the factor interfered with losing myself in the film. I also agree with Montambo's "tipping point into awesome" point.

I'm about halfway through Tropic Thunder. I didn't get to finish the film when I rented it so I picked up a copy from the library. I'm surprised at how funny it's been. I mean Ben Stiller's in the movie....I don't expect to laugh much.

message 182: by [deleted user] (new)

This man is serious about movies:

message 183: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yeah, I read about that guy...I understand the impulse...

I watched "The House Bunny" last night...surprisingly good. Same with "Tropic Thunder", which I'm watching now, but I'll probably turn off soon because the kids are around and might hear too many curse words...

message 184: by [deleted user] (new)

I've never heard of "The House Bunny." Sounds dirrrty.

message 185: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments It was not, ahem, intellectually challenging, but it was mindless farce.

message 186: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I just read "Marley and Me" has made 50 million or so since Christmas.

Jennifer Aniston could sit on my lap, naked, and I still wouldn't sit through that movie.

message 187: by Gåry! (new)

Gåry! (garyneill) Now, now, RA... don't talk crazy.

message 188: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 25, 2009 03:25AM) (new)

That's bullshit, RA, but I do know what you're saying about the movie. My mom wants to go see it and my cousin wants me to read The Shack and I hope I never do either.

message 189: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I dare you to get Jennifer Aniston to sit on my lap naked. We need to experiment. I'm willing to be the subject. In the name of Science, of course.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments We'll see what we can do, RA, but don't hold your breath. I'm sure there's a long line of people in front of you.

I just saw Milk, and it was amazing. Great performances, an incredible period of history, and I can hardly believe what gay people had to do just to preserve their basic rights to hold a job, and rent an apartment in the 70s.
Sean Penn was wonderful, and I wouldn't be surprised if he takes home an Oscar for his performance.

message 191: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) I saw Doubt yesterday. The acting is brilliant.

I know what people are saying about Benjamin Button, but I still want to see it!

message 192: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments I can hardly believe what gay people had to do just to preserve their basic rights to hold a job, and rent an apartment in the 70s.

It's still legal (until ENDA passes the Senate) in some 30 states for glbt folks to be fired for their sexuality/gender identity. (And of course, the ENDA that finally passed the House did not include transgender folks. It remains to be seen if the bill the Senate takes up will.)

message 193: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Also, sexual orientation is not a protected class for federal Fair Housing discrimination laws.

message 194: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments Did anyone see The Secret Life of Bees? I've seen it twice--if you go, take tissues! It's really good!

message 195: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Really? I'd not heard good things! But, then again, I don't remember from who or when I heard that. I do really enjoy Queen Latifah, so I probably will rent that. Maybe my library will get it in as a new release.

message 196: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I saw "The Fistfoot Way" last night. Imagine the funniest Will Farrell movie you ever saw except Will Farrell's not in it. And it's about martial arts. And it's R-rated. I liked it.

message 197: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
That sounds good! Did you see/like Shaolin Soccer or Kung Fu Hustle, RA?

message 198: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments No, I haven't seen those...I think. Sometimes I get confused. I'll check:)

I have the Hunter S. Thompson documentary, "Smart People", and "Savages" from either the library or video store, too. I think I'm throwing one on soon. I hanged new blinds and curtains, so I'm taking it easy for now.

message 199: by Sally, la reina (new)

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17373 comments Mod
Did you not hang the blinds? You hanged them?

message 200: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Isn't it "hanged" if it's past tense? It's not "hung", right? Fuck it, I don't know...I'm paranoid now.
