Sufferingbruin | 29 comments How do I access text stats on Amazon? Will someone please post idiot proof instructions, step-by-step? I'm requiring my students to read 2million words this year and they're excited! A lot of them read mysteries! And before I annoy you with another exclamation point, my students need to know how many words are in their books.

Amazon has this information. It is apparently very easy to access... except for me. After two days of trying, I am as of now ready to physical harm to someone, starting with myself.

Help, fellow members. Help... (pathetically places head in hands, sobbing...)

T (twoo) Just for grins, I went hunting. I think they removed the option.

A Google search brought up the ways to get to the stats - go to the book's page and scroll down to get to "Inside this Book" - almost to the bottom of the page. "Text stats" used to be an option available in that section. Comment thread I was reading was from 4/2011.

Either it's not available for all books (like the ones I was toying with) or it's been removed.

Some of the other comments in a Google search (book word counts) indicated that a random sampling could provide a guesstimate of word counts, but you probably want something closer than that.

Please don't harm yourself (or anyone else).... :-)

You are a kind, gentle soul who has my eternal thanks. (sigh)

I can't tell you how frustrating this has been. I'm going to find another way for my students to find out the grade level of the books they're reading, the word count, etc.

Again, thanks.

T (twoo) You're welcome. Hang in there, and if it occurs to you, perhaps you'll share some of the books that your class has gravitated towards....Maybe they'd even like to come hang out on GR with us!

Good luck!
