I keep looking for singel books, that are not connected in a series of books. But I find it hard to find them, all I hear about are this or that one of this or that series.

Books about vampires, werewolves, Witches & Warlocks.

Anyone got any tips for future reading?

It says on the site of the book that this is the first of a new series? That it came out earlier this month, so the next one won't have had time to come out yet. Or am I misunderstanding something now?

That is okey, I've done the same before. Thinking it would stand alone, and some months latera book number two comes and I keep wondering "What will it be about, everything was ended in the first book o.O".

Seems like writers like to keep to series instead of writing several books standing alone.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments They are few and far between. Looking at my read books I can see that. Sunshine is about vampires and a stand alone book. I just read a fun YA book Texas Gothic that is about psychics, witches and ghosts and it is a stand alone. Witch Hunt is a stand alone - witches. That's about it for what I have read.

Amy (amescat) | 279 comments It seems that every PNR book I've read is part of a series...never really paid attention to that before - It will be interesting to see how many get suggested.

Thank you for the tips, will look them all 3 up.

And I'm both glad and sad, to see it's not only me noticing there are few alone standing books.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 216 comments One I'd suggest is Gil's All Fright Diner by A. Lee Martinez. It's a great comedy/horror/romance/urban fantasy read.

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments A Discovery of Witches is the best book I have read this year and is the first of a series - but is is a long book, beautiful story (vampires and witches), and it has a very satisfactory ending for a first book. Not a cliffhanger and the story has a beginning, a middle, and an end so unlike a lot of series. You know there is more to come but what you have read is very satisfying - to me anyway.

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 248 comments The only single-title book that I can think of is
Witch in the House by Jenna McKnight
It's a light read that I enjoyed.

AlbertaJenn Yikes! That is a tough one. I honestly can't think of any, off the top of my head. They are all series. Go figure.

I might check it out, but I'm trying to find non-series books, because I'm following way to many series already. But since you seem so pleased with it, I am curious and might check it out even so.

Thank you for the sugesions Lisa M and Joseph :)

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments Mermaid A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon

This is not a series, decent book. Not Disney's version of the tale, either.

Alana ~ The Book Pimp (loonyalana) | 538 comments The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

Also not a series, but worth the read.

The Mummy by Anne Rice
not a series, although it should be- I love this book!

Shannon Dermott (shannondermott) How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper and The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #2) by Molly Harper are a part of a series but the main characters are different in each. You don't need to read both to enjoy either story.

Thank you so much all, for ideas to books. Going to check them all out, and happ to see that there are some stand alone books to find ^^

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 21 comments Pretty When She Dies by Rhiannon Frater was originally written as a stand alone. There is talk about a 2nd book coming, but it's still in very early stages - probably close to a year before it comes out. Not even a date for it yet.

I love Rhiannon Frater! This book tied up the ends well, but you could see the possibilities for another one down the road. No cliffhanger.
