Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Ack!

Okay, so I am moving from Wisconsin to the Seattle area in a little over a month. I have two cats.

Yesterday I spoke with my veterinarian and she suggested that flying them there would be less traumatic (only if I could have them in the cabin, NOT the cargo), then driving would be second to that, since it is at least 3 full days of driving.

Do any of you have any experience with this? I have read you should not tranquilize or sedate because of the high altitude, although I don't understand the connection. Other options for keeping them calm? One of them in particular gets easily upset.

Any help/suggestions welcome.

P.S. I already look at Pet Airways, they don't fly to Washington.

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Valium is a sedative though. :-( Maybe there are some other options for kitties.

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Yeah, I really need to check with her on that issue and see what's up... the idea of them being totally alert makes me anxious. So much better if they could just sleep through it!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I remember when my husband moved my cat from Cali to Colorado and decided to check her into the passenger cargo. It just happened to be one time there was both a cat and a dog on the plane, and I guess the dog was a huge dog with a massive bark and the dog kept barking at my cat the entire time.

I know the fears of checking an animal into cargo (temperature issues being one of them), but unless you have a cat that won't freak out and want to get out of a carryon bag, I'd almost think it would be easier.
