whimsicalmeerkat | 126 comments I have a challenge which requires that I read Finnegan's Wake in the month of November. Anyone know of a good reader's guide or companion for this? Other than the suggestions I've already received to keep good Irish whiskey around...

Jasmine | 455 comments oh oh oh I know this one!

A Skeleton Key to Finnegan's Wake

I haven't finished finnegan's wake yet but this book is awesome.

can we talk about companions to ulysses next I love a good geek out thread

whimsicalmeerkat | 126 comments We can, but I'm not sure I'll be reading it anytime soon, what with trying to read Finnegan's Wake and having recently finished Gravity's Rainbow. It's been a year of door-stoppers and I really want to get to The Power Broker. Possibly a re-read of the Wheel of Time books too. *has masochistic tendencies*

Thanks for the recommendation!

Oh, and I'm all about geeking out.

whimsicalmeerkat | 126 comments You know how I mentioned elsewhere that my county's library system is woefully lacking? Yeah. They have a grand total of 2 copies of FW. Seriously.

Needless to say they do not have your recommendation, but my boyfriend's college does have it. Hooray for WorldCat.

Jasmine | 455 comments I totally get the masochism. I've just been reading it for more than a year. YAY!

whimsicalmeerkat | 126 comments I, uh...I challenged a friend to watch The Room on the condition I read the whole thing in the month of November...

Greg | 117 comments When I tried to start reading it I was sort of using Re Joyce by Anthony Burgess, it made the book actually seem accessible but then I got distracted and read something else.

whimsicalmeerkat | 126 comments Hmm, looks like that one would be harder to get my hands on around here unless I get a card for another county or one of the universities. I may stick with Skeleton Key.

Jasmine | 455 comments dude and greg is the one that recommended the one I told you to get don't listen to him his recommendations are all flip flopy.

re joyce is pretty. maybe I'll read it.

message 13: by Greg (new)

Greg | 117 comments I'd recommend both. The one benefit of the Burgess is that it's shorter and I would have recommended the Joseph Campbell book, but Jasmine you beat me to it!
