Jasmine | 455 comments Okay so I'm reading the monstrumologist, and honestly I'm not a fan, but it reminded me how much I love books about mythical monsters.

I mean I love spring heeled jack and irish fairies.

so I was wondering if anyone knew of books involving any kind of mythical creature (not made up for the novel) that take place in a reasonably realistic world.

I mean I love cryptozoology. I'm mildly obsessed with destination truth and paranormal files where they go out looking for these creatures. lets find novels about them preferably at least mildly well researched.

Christy (christymtidwell) | 149 comments I absolutely cannot vouch for this list of what the compiler calls cryptofiction, but it might be worth checking out.

Jasmine | 455 comments cool thanks. it looks like a lot of those are giant spiders not cryptids but I'll look thoroughly tomorrow.

Steve Alten has that "meg" series that is all about MEGALODON. which, what isn't to like about that??

also, i know some of the preston and child ones are applicable to this topic. i can be more specific unless someone beats me to it before i get a chance.,..

Mir | 191 comments The Fair Folk is short stories. The longest and best one, "Gypsies in the Wood" by Kim Newman, is a changeling story that may fit your request. The setting is realistic but historical (late 19th century, if I remember correctly).

message 19: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 455 comments I love changelings.

karen!!!! I bought the first book in that series after work today I'm so excited.
