Peep (Pop! Pop!) They changed it because I am on auto approve for one publisher. It now says request and I was sad. But when I tried to request a book, it was still auto approved. Don't know why, but I'll take it! Surprised to see Froi up there! I requested it, even though I have already read it. I'm still going to post my review there.

How do you get auto approved for specific publishers?

message 53: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) To be honest, I don't know. It was wayyy back when Netgalley was just starting out and wasn't as big as it is now. I think they were just happy to have people requesting and reviewing. Now they get so many people they even have to reject people.

It hasn't happened since then and that's probably because I'm not afraid to publish a bad review. Haha, publishers don't want to give my whining free reign. :P

message 54: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (narcisse) If the galley is an auto-approve for everyone, it will say "Read Now". If you are put on the publisher's auto-approval list, then it will still say "Request" but will then auto-approve you immediately.

I'm on auto-approve for HarperTeen, Macmillan Children's, and Harlequin. They didn't tell me why or how I earned auto-approve status, but I imagine that it's because I'm a book blogger and that my blog stats must meet whatever arbitrary secret requirements they have in place and that I included all of the stats and info they're looking for in my personal bio.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't have stats in my Bio (maybe I need to fix that). But what if my stats don't live up to snuff? I have more "friends" on goodreads who follow my reviews than on my blog, would you also include that stat?

I've heard a lot about the stats lately and I'm just not sure how the best way to word them/include them. Can someone give me an example?

message 56: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I would include that. Tell them everything that makes you awesome! The groups you belong to, friends you have, maybe even your average likes on your reviews, or how many comments you usually get. I have hits per month on mine, as well as FB, and Twitter followers.

I also mentioned that I don't usually give out high ratings for books. Oh, don't forget to mention when you started your blog. And mention your local influence, too. It sounds like alot, but it is probably about a paragraph. I even mentioned that I post more on GR than I do on my blog. I must have been bored when I did all that.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments LOL. I started my blog in like 2007 but didn't use it much until like 2009. (I started it when I went to Switzerland thinking that I would blog the 3 months I was there. This did not happen because I was too busy enjoying Switzerland).

Well Hmmm. That's a lot to add. What if I'm scared my blog numbers aren't that high? (view spoiler)

Okay when I reach today's Nano numbers I might go piddle with my netgalley.

message 58: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Leave out the blog numbers or anything you don't feel like doing. That's why I said those other things, as examples. I meant comments on your GR reviews. You can just say you get lot's of comments on all your reviews. How's that?

Just tell them the groups you're in. Your followers. And that you talk too much. Haha.

I have FB, Twitter, blog stats and that I really don't like most books I read, but I try to be fair. Definitely mention when you started it (as some pubs just look for blogs older than a year).

message 59: by Heidi (last edited Nov 18, 2011 04:18PM) (new)

Heidi I don't have a blog so I just noted that I am a bigger user of Goodreads. I figure if I get a book great - if not I have too many already to read.

message 60: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That's what I did too Heidi, and surprisingly I get quite a few approves based just off my review and account here.

Heidi Wendy F wrote: "That's what I did too Heidi, and surprisingly I get quite a few approves based just off my review and account here."

I have gotten a few too. At least it is a 50/50 chance unlike my lack of wins on GR First Read Giveaways which I haven't won for 2 years (not that I am bitter or anything).

Sandra (Waiting For Wentworth) (waitingforwentworth) | 10 comments Entangled Publishing has quit using NetGalley. I just read Touch (Denazen #1) by Jus Accardo from them.

Now you can sign up for ARCs to review at: http://www.entangledpublishing.com/

message 63: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Thanks for the link. I wonder why they quit?

message 64: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just saw that this YA book is now on netgalley:

Under the Mesquite by Guadalupe Garcia McCall

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments That's a nice book. I liked it.

message 66: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have wanted to read it for awhile and the library book has been sitting next to my bed. I am just spoiled and need an ebook version. Did you review it? ... Just read it, I like how you sum up the book in the last paragraph of your review. I really hope they approve me, but regardless I plan to read this.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I'll cross my fingers for you! It was lovely to read.

message 68: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Toes too please! :)

message 69: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Thanks for the recs again!

message 70: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep (Pop! Pop!) wrote: "Thanks for the recs again!"

I second that!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments So they gave me Froi even though I already reviewed it. Won't lie, I feel a tad guilty for downloading it. But I kinda think it'd be fun to do a different blog feature than just a review. I do these "Breakdown of a Heroines" sometimes and might try to do one in regards to Quintana. Of course every heroine in this series seems so strong. Love that about them.

message 72: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I got Froi too, I was mixed as to whether I wanted to read Froi so it encourages me to go on. I listened to the audio of the first one and I think the narrator ruined it for me, I struggled to get through it. I think a break down of heroines sounds fun.

I finished Mesquite last night, loved it. I loved it for so many reasons.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Wasn't Mesquite lovely? I really wish more people would read it.

Froi is actually better than Finnikan in my opinion.

message 74: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh! That is good news. Okay, now I am more excited to read it.

I agree about Mesquite. The publisher needs to market it. I may suggest to my librarian to display the book.

message 75: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I'm kind of bummed because when I checked the two books (before I read them) that I just finished, it did not say that they were series. In fact, I finished Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton , I was surprised to see it was a series. So, before I started the next book, Incarnate (Newsoul, #1) by Jodi Meadows I checked to see if it was a series and it said it wasn't. Well guess what? It was! Maybe I just missed seeing that they were series? Or, are they changing the descriptions overnight?

Anyway, it's annoying that a story can't be finished in one book. I thought that phase was over but I guess I was wrong. I did enjoy both books but sheesh, I would have been ok finishing it in one book! Anyway, I'm done venting! Thanks for listening!

message 76: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Peep and her love of the series continues :)

message 77: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Haha, it vexes me so! Now I don't know what to read!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I love the fact you just used the word vex.

I so agree Peep! I felt that way after reading Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi , which by the way, I only realised was a series towards the end of the book, when it was obvious that nothing was going to be resolved. Eesh!

message 80: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Thanks Roshini, that was one of the books that I was going to read. It doesn't even mention it being a series on the GR page!

message 81: by Roshini (new)

Roshini Exactly! It only does so on the last line of the book summary on goodreads, which I suppose I must've skimmed over. It wasn't that bad a book actually, so you might want to read it at some point:-)

message 82: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) I recently got approved for Persuasion A Latter-day Tale by Rebecca H. Jamison , Caller ID by Christensen and The Green man by Michael Bedard.

message 83: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I have gone a little Netgally crazy since getting my Nook Color. I think it's a little easier for me to get approved since I am also an educator. The galleys I've read so far are Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi Incarnate (Newsoul, #1) by Jodi Meadows Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton Double by Jenny Valentine Green River Killer A True Detective Story by Jeff Jensen Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews Supergirl Mixtapes by Meagan Brothers Terrible, Awful, Horrible Manners by Beth Bracken The Way We Fall by Megan Crewe

message 84: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I have another batch I'm working on next Revealing Eden by Victoria Foyt The Stuttering Tattoo by Greg Logsted Invasion (A C.H.A.O.S. Novel) by J.S. Lewis Popular Clone by M.E. Castle Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley On a Dark Wing by Jordan Dane The Edumacation of Jay Baker by Jay Clark .

message 85: by Brandi (new)

Brandi Then I have another batch already approved. It gets a little overwhelming! I can't stop sending requests!

Same here. :)

Brandi Out of the ones I have read so far there were several I really liked. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi Everneath (Everneath, #1) by Brodi Ashton The Way We Fall by Megan Crewe were probably my favorites, but I also really enjoyed Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews Incarnate (Newsoul, #1) by Jodi Meadows Double by Jenny Valentine and Supergirl Mixtapes by Meagan Brothers .

How do Harper Collins approve? I have done everything they mentioned but they never approve me.

message 89: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I think it may be because I'm an educator?

message 90: by Heidi (last edited Jan 10, 2012 09:26AM) (new)

Heidi Wow Brandi! You go girl! I really want to read The Way We Fell. I haven't checked out Netgalley for a few weeks because I have too many Kindle and library books right now and feel pressured to read my Netgally books quickly so they see the review.

message 91: by Brandi (new)

Brandi Yes I feel pressured too! I have been trying to catch up, but many of them aren't released for quite some time and when I first signed up I read that the reviews are not supposed to be posted until 30 days prior to the release. Is anyone following this rule? I have finished some, but haven't posted the reviews yet because it's still a few months away from their release date.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I organize my releases on a calendar and don't read them for review till closer to the release date. I was getting overwhelmed. I'm still a little, but at least there's a method to my madness.

message 93: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I didn't even know that about the dates Brandi - even more pressure!

message 94: by Brandi (new)

Brandi I'm trying that method too Cassi. I think I have over 20 books waiting to be read. :/ but also :)

Bethany | 578 comments I finally made a netgalley account...YAY! I was hesitant to do this because I kinda felt like I was cheating, since I'm not a librarian or a blogger. But, hey, I was honest on my profile and they're giving me books, so YAY!

I just got these...
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman The White Oak by Kim White Gift by Andrea J. Buchanan

I am not a librarian or blogger either but I LOVE books so I don't feel guilty about it at all. If I love one of the ARC's I will shout it from the rooftops :)

message 100: by Roshini (new)

Roshini And as I expected, my requests were denied:-( And I'm a blogger and a writer:-(
