My family had been brought to our country poor even by migrant workers. I rustle up meals, cleaned pots and pans. There was little enough protection to people, friends and family all in the night came all at once into sleep. That was when they would tell stories to each other, why we are all here. That kept us all together. And in the morning was gone, as tornado magnets.

last one was funny,
One for the money, two for the show, we were to get ready… We were the ‘in’ group, and on the peer. We were about to swim in the lake, and Ned dove first, then Tracy. I suddenly got the shivers, like when it began to rain, and we would all sing, ‘It hurts like a tornado, when it doesn’t care, you about,’ when I realized I lost consciousness, and was frozen under water.

The tornado that I felt ripping through my heart was worse than the one going on outside of my body. I could feel one of them and the other was like feathers touching my skin. I didn't care anymore. Life was bad enough without having to worry about love.
