Goodreads Librarians Group discussion

Librarians, please don't combine books which are not the same. These, for example:

Librarians need to stop doing this. You can't just change a title to whatever you want the title to be.

I realize some librarians think these books are junk books and therefore not worthy of being treated like real books, but that's not the way we're supposed to do things...

Could we get staff to contact these librarians? I sent a message to one of them yesterday and didn't get a response.

Perhaps this should be addressed in the goodreads feedback group?

It looks to me like mostly they're "NOT A BOOK". It's just Books LLC's way of spamming.

Books LLC, Hepahaestus Books, etc., etc., are NOT Not-A-Book candidates. They should not be getting so marked, they should not be getting clumped up, etc.

I've contacted GR support. If nothing happens, I'm going to start mentioning librarians by name, because this is getting ridiculous, it's creating hours upon hours of work for other librarians to correct.

Steven Sautter, if you're reading this, it's because you are not accepting messages. Please stop combining dissimilar works by Hephaestus Books.

One of the really annoying things about this is that it takes much, MUCH longer to separate than to combine these items. Combining can be done by clicking a bunch of boxes all on one page, then clicking "combine." Separating has to be done one by painful one, and if you're attempting to separate books off from an enormous chunk, you will inevitably get a "502 Bad Gateway" and have to back arrow and try again. The 502 Bad Gateway persists until you've gotten the chunk down to a more manageable number.

Please, librarians, STOP DOING THIS.

Yeah, I've read that now. I understand GR's point - I just think they're wrong. :-) Frankly, I can't see the attraction of "fixing" these bogus entries for bogus books.

“Fixing these bogus entries for bogus books” means, in a nutshell, to affirm the right to read (and shelve) whatever you want.
If you allow someone to tamper with (alleged or real) bogus books, the next tampered books could be the ones you love.

Bogus or not, people should respect the rules/guidelines set up by GR for merging books.

No doubt. I just devote my attentions to books that matter to me, and I'm sure most librarians do the same. If you have time to care about books from Books LLC, I applaud you.
