Just started Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: An Inquiry Into Values. Promising to be a good read!

@Yamiyogurt- I read Zen last year, there were some good bits and I'd wanted to read it for ages, but found the majority to be pretty awful!

I've just read Bring Up the Bodies, sequel to Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. I have to say I like the first book more than the sequel.

Currently Arthur & George by Julian Barnes (anyone?), surprisingly lovely and artfully written. also accidentally delving into pre-WWI literature with a collection of Joyce on the side.

I love life of Pi and I think Julian Barnes is brilliant, I need to read more of his stuff

Life of Pi is one of my favorite books. Can't wait to watch the movie!!

Well I literally just found Atlas Shrugged lying around at home, and it was an extremely compelling read at age 14.

Makes you look at things in a very different light, what with the characters having such a strong sense of conviction.

Very heavy read though! Enjoy!:)

Currently reading Perfume - Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind.
14 chapters in and it's truly an experiences of the senses - most obviously for the nose! At times the imagery is strong enough for you to smell off the pages.

Planning on getting to Life of Pi next.

i've just finished JC Oate's WILD NIGHTS! i kinda liked EDickinsonRepliLuxe.. it was nice.. hope never to see a robot poet in any house, though.. that would just be.. SAD.

For me, the individual books weren't THAT amazing, but there was this very addictive thing to it! I've actually read it quite a long time ago but at the end of the series, I just really liked the whole thing, and until now I still remember the main characters (Valek and Yelena), and I still really like them a lot!

I think the whole series is not bad and worth a try. :)

I started reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I have not read her twilight books. i like the writing style. what is your opinion of the host, who has read it ?

I loved The host. Now i am reading Outside in by Maria v. Snyder. the series it's so good i recommend you read it.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Sempre by J.M. Darhower. It's my current favourite :)
Everyone can read this since it's a pretty gender neutral book. A MUST READ!

Finished reading Graceling by kristin cashore. I have not read a fantasy book for very long. i love it. Now reading Lisey's Story by stephen king.

I stumbled on This Is How: Proven Aid in Overcoming Shyness, Molestation, Fatness, Spinsterhood, Grief, Disease, Lushery, Decrepitude & More. For Young and Old Alike. in my college bookstore the other day (all the books are unwrapped!), read about half of it, and really liked it. The top review puts it best:


This Is How is a catch-all self-help book for the desperate, the disillusioned, or the merely curious...Burroughs is the kind of friend you want to have around when it's time to stop whining and wallowing and get serious about change. He'll give you that boot in the backside followed by a gentle exhortation to be hopeful and optimistic...His style is often hard-hitting, occasionally punctuated by coarse language. What's surprising, though, is the tenderness and insight that accompany his boldness.

One-size-fits-all looks a little different on each person, but there's something here for everyone. What I found irrelevant may be just what someone else needs to hear. Even the parts that don't apply to you will have information to help you be more sensitive to the struggles of others.

It's a bit too much to read all at once, I think, but there are a lot of good bits in here, and I'm printing out some quotes I copied down and putting them above my desk.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I recommend this to those who dig thrillers.

Am currently reading, Never Make the First Offer (Except When You Should) Wisdom from a Master Deal Maker, Donald Dell.

If you are in the biz of making deals, I think we all are, this book is very useful for you. We make deals on every single interaction with our friends, co-workers or business associates. The thing is only if you are a good deal maker or a poor one.

Absolutely love Gone Girl and Wool. I heard Gone Girl is in treatment for a movie and Wool as well.

Finished it and I love it. I wonder how they are going to incorporate so many years of Ender's life into the movie though.

I watched the movie and it was three hours long... A very difficult storyline to execute into a movie version but I plan to read the book because of all the beautiful lines!

Kudos to the film makers for taking a stab at it and making it almost interesting. I really cared nothing for the futuristic section but the composer/reporter subplots were moving.

I gave up trying to rationalise the connections and just sat back and watch it.

I agree! The composer's letters to his boyfriend were nicely visualized in the movie.

I give a majority of the copies away to my friends... There is simply no space at home unfortunately. (Reading The Daylight Wars by Peter V. Brett. Tedious.)

New York Times has been reporting about how independent the reviews are on goodreads.com but I can't help but feel there is a lot of sock puppetery going on when I read incredible (or should that be incredulous) reviews where it resembles a technicolour dream sequence from "What Dreams May Be" (the movie with Robin Williams in it) all brilliant and almost hyper-real. Feels like astro-turfing at times.

(Still reading Cold Quiet Country by Clayton Lindemuth but watching preview of "Flight" tonight. Yay!)

Just finished Hit-Girl and Mark Miller doesn't disappoint. How many of us here read comics and graphic novels anyways? Just wondering.
