Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11206 comments 30.2 Sheila’s Task: One Author – Two Series
For this task you will read 2 books from 2 different series written by the SAME author under the same name.

Book 1: Read any book in any series by an author who has written at least 2 different series.

Book 2: Read the FIRST book in a different series written by the same author of your first book.

For example: Many of us enjoy the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, but did you know that she has also written 3 other series? So you could read Smokin' Seventeen in the Stephanie Plum series for book 1 AND the first book in one of her other series for book 2.

A series will be defined as at least 3 published books with the same series name. The author must have the same name for both books. Pseudonyms are not allowed. Both books must be identified as part of two different series by Goodreads (Series Name, #).

message 7: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 69 comments So does the series have to have 3 already published books, or can it be a planned trilogy, with just 2 books out currently?

message 8: by Kate (new)

Gayla Bassham (sophronisba) | 64 comments Jasper Fforde has three different series.

(But I now realize I'm not sure they count, since not all the books in the series have been published yet. Never mind!)

message 13: by Rosemary (last edited Nov 26, 2011 02:55AM) (new)

Rosemary | 613 comments I don't think you really mean this, do you?

"Both books must be identified as part of the same series by Goodreads (Series Name, #)."

From the rest of the task description it sounds like the two books must NOT be in the same series.

message 14: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 902 comments How about Vampire Zero A Gruesome Vampire Tale (Vampires, #3) by David Wellington and Frostbite (Werewolves, #1) by David Wellington ?

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments sweet i've been hoping to fit the new Chicagoland Vamps in

I can do it as bk 6 for the first one, and then she has a YA adult series that I haven't tried yet - whee

my problem was that so many of the series i'm reading right now are relatively new, so they don't have the requistate 3 books published - even if they are scheduled

message 17: by Emily (new)

Emily | 782 comments Just to clarify, there have to be three books already published in the series for it to count, right? So I could not use Chimera, since there are only two books so far?

Christine US (christineus) | 575 comments AWESOME!!! I'm a huge series person so this rocks:)

message 19: by ★Meghan★ (new)

Thank you Rosemary. You are SO right. I sent a message to Kristi to correct it

Thanks for pointing that out!

There only appear to be 2 books in the Werewolves series so Frostbite would not work. Sorry

I just read my first one by her not too long ago...it was a nice and cutesy romance without any smut. Some of my favorites.

Thank you,I think I understand now!

Does anybody have any YA author suggestions that would work for this task?

message 33: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments Chloe Neill has a YA series and a UF series - I'm using that

Tamora Pierce has lots of series out you could use

message 34: by Felina (new)

Here are some I found on my list that I have...

Suzanne Collins
L.J. Smith
Rick Riordan
Richelle Mead
P.C. Cast
Alyson Noel
Phillip Pullman
Jenna Black
Kelley Armstrong
Rachel Caine
Melissa De La Cruz
James Patterson
Sara Shepard (possible if the last in The Lying Games comes out in February)
Nancy Holder
Amanda Hocking

message 36: by Felina (new)

Felina | 0 comments I didn't know Suzanne Collins had two series out. I thought the Hunger Games series was her only one. I'll have to check out the other one.

message 37: by ♥Meagan♥ (new)

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 101 comments It's called Gregor the Overlander and is a middle grade series. She actually wrote it before THG.

message 38: by KSMary (last edited Nov 26, 2011 01:22PM) (new)

KSMary | 1181 comments I also found these authors who have different series:
Dean Koontz
Debbie Macomber
Amanda Quick
Orson Scott Card
P.C. Cast

message 39: by Emily (new)

Emily | 782 comments If you like sci-fi/fantasy, Jim Butcher has two good series going. I also believe that Scott Westerfeld would work (I think the Leviathan series has three books out, and the Uglies series has four).

message 40: by ♥Meagan♥ (new)

♥Meagan♥ (fadedrainbows) | 101 comments Richelle Mead should work as well.

message 41: by Gayla (new)

Gayla Bassham (sophronisba) | 64 comments Nancy Kress works, too, if I understand the rules right (Beggars in Spain and Probability Moon).

I think I am going to use Sharon Shinn (Angelica and Mystic and Rider).

message 44: by Bea (new)

Bea I am using Jeffrey Deaver for this task.

message 45: by Sheila (last edited Nov 27, 2011 07:10AM) (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Great choice Bea. I love both the Lincoln Rhyme series AND the Kathryn Dance series

I actually think it is easier to find authors that have different series by going to Fantastic Fiction http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk// and looking up authors and books there. Nothing against goodreads I just feel that FF is better suited for this kind of quest.

message 46: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 815 comments Another good site that works well for this task is fictfact.com. It is geared directly toward keeping track on series.

That is a good way, Sheila.

I found that searching my TBR with # in the search field produced all the series books on my list. I still had to check each author, but the "Series by ...author.." feature gave me a visual of series titles so I could see if there were 3+ properly listed on GR

message 48: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Thanks Meghan! I didn't know about that one. I am now the newest registered member of fictfact.com. username is SheilaJ

message 49: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (sheilaj) | 2221 comments Thanks Dlmrose. I knew there had to be a way to do that here.

message 50: by Felina (new)

Felina | 0 comments If you go to an authors page on GR it will show all their series just under their top 10 most popular books. Sometimes its off though. Stephen King shows having several series but all but one are just the same book listed twice to show a series. He only has the Dark Tower series that is actually a series.
