message 101: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments I would but i want to fit it in my next level of the chunkster. No idea when this is going to be.

message 102: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm in same situation as Esther. October is looking jammed for me with A A Discovery of Witches and Swan Song. I'm not even sure I'll be able to do those two - I'm in a bit of a reading slump at the moment.

message 103: by Peggy (last edited Sep 22, 2014 03:28AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm not in a hurry. I put it in my next milestone which I still need to start, but it's also the last one I'll complete so basically I have until December 31 ;-) I'm also fine with reading it in November for example.

Thank you. Completely forgot about that buddy read too.

I need to read 4 books in the next week I think... how did that happen?

message 105: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments There are just too many good buddy reads happening recently!

November sounds good for that one Peggy but might need to let you know towards end of October as to when I'll be ready to start it.

I'm struggling to make it through the group read book even though I'm really enjoying it - it's nearly taken me all month! And my challenge read too took so long to read. I need to read two chunksters before I even start A Discovery of Witches or Swan Song! Plus my current reads and Hexed! Starting to feel I've over committed myself!

message 106: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments So it might be wise to skip the The Magician's Lie buddy read? ;-)

I think I'll just read it sometime when I feel like it and not review it openly until I'm allowed.

I think this one is complicated because a public discussion is probably not what the publisher would want given it's not due out until January. I think we'll have to read separately and not review until a later date. I still want to know what you think of it though!

Theresa~OctoberLace (octoberlace) | 1090 comments The thread for the Swan Song Buddy Read has been amended. We'll start on October 26th, right after the October Toppler.

message 109: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments Thanks, Theresa. I've added it to the calendar.

message 110: by April (new)

April | 2 comments Does anyone want to start reading The Girl with a Clock for a Heart with me?... We can start whenever your ready! :)

message 111: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Oct 01, 2014 11:40AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments I have updated the calendar - please check it over and make sure I haven't missed anything.

April, I will add you book once you have readers and a date set. Welcome to our group! Good to see you jumping right in!

message 112: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm going I have to try this once the toppler is done :)

message 113: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments Janice, we are postponing the Discovery of Witches buddy read until sometime in November. We don't have a specific date yet.

message 114: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Janice, I've created a buddy read thread for Ready Player One to take place throughout November. Thanks.

message 115: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments Thanks Sarah!

Things have been quiet for buddy reads, but it's going to get busy here after the Toppler. I have 2 starting on the 27th. YIKES!

message 116: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments There is also a buddy read of The Name of the Wind starting on November 1st Janice :)

I can't wait Liza. I have finished all of my Octber commitments and am filling in until we start this one.
I can't decide whether I want to start American Gods yet or not.

I may join in on this one. It's been on my radar.

message 120: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments hey... I know that there was a few of us interested in reading The Blade Itself at the beginning of 2014. I will read it at the end of December.

Also, my online library added Rothfuss' The Slow Regard of Silent Things this week. I am next in line so I will get it in the next 3 weeks. This is a novella featuring Auri. If anyone wants to join me...

message 121: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments A couple of us are going to read A Discovery of Witches now. Esther has to give her copy back to the library soon, and we never seem to hit on a time that works for all of us who are interested in the book. I'm going to read it with Esther, and if anyone else wants to join in, we would love to have you.

message 122: by Sarah (last edited Nov 16, 2014 11:33AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm in for Slow Regard Esther - I'm in the same situation as you - on the list waiting for a book - in next 3 weeks! I would also like to read The Blade Itself but it depends on when in December you want to read it as I'm going to be away from internet access from 18th December so I won't be able to participate in discussion so perhaps I should leave off committing to that one.

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Hey guys, I looked around the group and can't figure out where to post for buddy badges. This is my first time participating in buddy reads and I read two fantastic books in November Ready Player Oneand The Name of the Wind. Thanks for doing this in the group it adds an added joy to books

If you post in the November group read (Book with number in title) (which I think you did anyway), you will receive a badge for the November Group Read when Kat does them. No badge for The Name of the Wind though - that's just for fun! Buddy reads don't get badges unless they also fall under Monthly Challenge, Toppler or Monthly Group Read theme!

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Oh I saw the seal badge that said buddies. Was that a challenge?

message 130: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Tasha wrote: "Oh I saw the seal badge that said buddies. Was that a challenge?"

Yes. A couple months back we were paired with another person in the group and we had to pick a book for that person to read from their TBR. It was a monthly challenge!

message 131: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments The only time a buddy read would earn a badge is if you are reading it for a challenge, group read, or toppler. In those cases you need to pop over to the appropriate reporting thread to indicate that you have met the criteria of the activity.

message 132: by Canadian Dragon (new)

Canadian Dragon | 1020 comments Thanks, everyone is so helpful:)

message 133: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments Can everyone take a look at the calendar and let me know if I've missed anything, or if there are any upcoming buddy reads in the plans? If they are in the plans, perhaps the thread can be set up so that I can link to it in the calendar.

message 134: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments We should plan some of our serial killers to the buddy read. I know a few people have Pendgast, Harry Hole, and Jack Reacher. I also have Harry Bosch.

I'm not sure who is where but maybe we could start a thread for each of those series?

message 135: by Stephanie (last edited Dec 15, 2014 05:55PM) (new)

Stephanie Sarah Lou and I are going to do a buddy read for Mortal Instruments:city of bones. I think Melissa (WA) is going to join in to. I think sometime in January? We both have a book to read before starting city of bones.

message 136: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie If anyone else wants to join in on the buddy read, the more the merrier :)

message 137: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59916 comments If you want to set up the thread for it Stephanie, I can add it to the Buddy Read Calendar.

message 138: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Done :-)

message 139: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments I know there are quite a few people interested in reading The Riyria Revelations beginning with The Crown Conspiracy. I'm not sure but am assuming we'd go ahead and start this after New Year's. Wondering if that time is okay with everyone?

message 140: by Tasha (last edited Dec 27, 2014 06:33PM) (new)

Tasha I plan on reading it (the book is in my amazon cart) too so if there is a BR going on, I'll probably join in. (The Riyria Revelations)

Mariab | 3059 comments count me in!

message 142: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2101 comments Ema and I are planning to buddy read The Paying Guests, starting 06 January 2015. Anybody else is of course welcome to join! I will set up the thread.

I'd like to join in on this one although it would depend on when it's planned for.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments I just posted a thread for a Buddy Read for The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. I've only got the book for 2 weeks (library book). Please join me if you are interested.

message 146: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1788 comments I read that book last year and thought it was great. Somehow when I was going into it I thought it would be difficult but it's actually a pretty easy read. Gave me a great appreciation for what someone with a mental health was going through.

Dawn, I read it way back in the 70's for high school English and again in College for American Lit - I loved it back then. I'm dying (no pun intended) to re-read it to see if my impression still holds true. I ventured out in 6F weather to get the book from the library - I really want to read it!

Sarah | 18550 comments Esther wrote: "Sarah and I are planning to read Iron Council, last of the Bag-las trilogy early february if anyone want to join in"

You still up for reading this in February? I was thinking it might be better to wait until after the toppler?

message 149: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5194 comments Sarah, I was about to post the same message. I am good with anytime but starting before would mean puttting it on hold during toppler. So we migth as well start after. I need to finish my current book first as it is the last book of my 1st level.

message 150: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Great minds think alike and all that! ;-) After the toppler it is. I generally don't mind putting books on hold but with Mieville, I think it's best to read all in one go!
