Mimi V (naomi_v) | 432 comments for a while now it's been illegal in illinois to film police. does anybody have any insight into the legality of this? if it's not legal, then what will it take to overturn the law in illinois? a supreme court case? and would this particular court uphold our rights?

I don't know the specifics of the law(s) involved in Illinois, but it seems to me that a cop working in public as a public servant has no reasonable expectation of privacy. That's not to mention the power check this has (which is why they want it gone in the first place).

Mimi V (naomi_v) | 432 comments I agree -- that they have no expectation of privacy. i haven't heard anything about it, but surely this will be challenged. especially as Chicago's mayor is working to tighten up the laws for curfew, etc. claiming that it's necessary for G8 and NATO conferences next year. he keeps saying it's "temporary" but he's also in a big hurry to pass these now. i would bet money that these laws will be used against Occupy protesters as soon as they are passed.
