What Else Are You Reading - December 2011 Edition

I read the second book and wasn't caught up in it. Did I miss a lot by jumping over the first book? I know a lot of people really like this series.

I just finished the book about three hours ago, and thought about 300-400 page of the book could have been cut, making the story a lot better, not screwing up the story's overall plot or message.

Just starting reading: Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book One) by Kevin Hearne. High hopes!
Just finished listening to: Catching Fire (The Second Book of the Hunger Games) by Suzanne Collins. Most definitely the middle story.
Just starting listening to: Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, Book 3) by Suzanne Collins. Have to prepare myself for this - I can't imagine a complete happy ending.
On the toilet read: Looking for Calvin and Hobbes by Nevin Martell. Average about 1 & a-half pages per sitting.
Comic of the moment: Locke & Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez. Stephen Kings' son is winding a very interesting tale here. Recommended. Next, The Boys by Garth Ennis...

This was dramatised by the BBC Radio 4, and is available for download.

Seriously?!? Well I know what I'm listening to over Christmas.

I agree with others...Name of the Wind is the way to go here. Be prepared to immediately want to start reading the Wise Man's Fear afterwards, though.

Cloud Atlas... Sigh. Wish I could read it again for the first time!
About Steve Jobs- I'm not sure he is a person to emulate. ;)

You were absolutely right when you praised it in last month's thread; it is obscenely perfect. It's one of those 'stealth' titles that secretly get my family to read 'genre fiction'.

I'm now overcoming my fear and suspicion of classic sf with the 1966 Nebula award winning Babel-17, which is pretty good so far.

Once in a while I will stumble upon a book that isn't well known
but that I very much enjoy.
(For instance A Book Dragon by Donn Kushner or
Gary A. Ballard's The Bridge Chronicles)
They tend to be quirky books.
If folks have come across similar books
I'd be interested to hear about them.

Bigotry, Hatred, Ignorance... and of such a stunning level it makes my head spin?
These things?
Yeah, I don't understand them.
And I have no plans on tr..."
Please, this is not the forum for this. Let's move the hate elsewhere.

That was so two pages ago Will.
Also, sup Aloha. Where you been hiding?

Been here for a while ;)
You go with you bad self and your rebel, cannibalistic ways :P
Got tired of copy/pasting your reading list everywhere?

i don't know what to do now.

I'd love to continue fencing with you, but we'll get yelled at for Foiling the purpose of the thread.

You're welcome!

Agreed, this is hardly the place for a sword fight, which is good because I'm running dangerously low on double entendres.

Yessum.
Currently reading an Urban Fantasy anthology, Dark and Stormy Knights, while I try and figure out which four books to read next in order to finish off my yearly goal.
Need me some quick ones.

You'll be pleased to hear that there is a new run of Steven Moffats Sherlock in January, of course that's on the BBC so everyone else may have to wait a bit.

I've been eagerly awaiting it. And yes, hopefully BBC America gets it to us soon.

I'm also (thanks to the offer to get 1 book free) listening to 11/22/63 through Audible. I'm usually not big on audio books, but i decided to give it another try.

Pretty much agree on 11/22/63. This is a case of no editor willing to challenge King. The middle sections really drug on too long. Still a good book though.
Up next - Contagious by Scott Sigler. This ought to be a whimsical little bloodbath of a read.

Good to know, since I just bought 1Q84 from Amazon. Also I have finished the Night Angel Trilogy, which I thought was a intresting trilogy, but not anything that I not read before.
