I'll begin!
Hi,
I am JD. I created Book Haven in 2009 and am happy that it has flourished. I recently took on a co-moderator named Nissie. We're here for anything you need. If you need to ask how to do something, don't be shy. Believe me, we're used to it. :)
A little about me and this group...
I am an author, but I am very careful not to pressure anyone into reading my books. I am also a graphic artist and recently created my own business creating book covers for other authors. I'm a psychology major and a bit of a recluse. I'm very shy in person, but outgoing online. :) I am married to the greatest guy in the world. I love animals and books. I have always been a Nook girl, but I recently acquired the Kindle Fire and I love both! I prefer to read Historical Romance, YA, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and Paranormal.
This group is my "baby", I created her from scratch with the intention of making a haven for all readers. When I first began this group, I couldn't find a group that catered to readers who liked multiple genres. That was when I created Book Haven. I consider all of my members to be my "cyber family" and am grateful that many of you feel the same way. I hope you all enjoy my group and that you make suggestions if you ever feel that the group is lacking an aspect. :)

I'm Bridget. I too love to read across many different genre. Fantasy, horror, historical romance, contemporary romance, paranormal romance...well, you get the idea. I just love to read and have a hard time turning down any book that catches my eye.
I'm also a writer. I started as a journalist and covered high school sports for my local newspaper. As the way of newspapers have changed, I've changed my writing to focus on books. I self-published a fantasy novel and a short story so far.
I love animals and share my home with three labs that totally think they own the place...and they do. Look forward to continued great discussions.

What is your fantasy novel about? I'm always curious when I meet fellow authors. :)

Hi everyone. I'm Geoff. I've been on GR for a while but have concentrated on finishing writing a book rather than being sociable, so I'm still finding my way around.
I like atmospheric literature with believable characters, particularly if the plot strikes a historical chord, but I'll read across most genres.
I live with my wife in the Chiltern Hills between London and Oxford. When not writing or otherwise trying to earn a living, I'm a very bad pianist and a bit of a lunatic on horseback. Both passions have been known to creep into my writing.
And the book? There's a thumbnail and an excerpt on my profile, if anyone's interested.

Ahhhh... you've been a lurker. lol I'm just teasing you. That's how I refer to the people who are more comfortable reading on GR than participating. There is nothing wrong with it though. ;) When I first joined, I was more of a lurker until I found my niche and now I am a social butterfly. :)

Thanks, JD. The book is at that nerve-wracking stage when it has just been signed by a great agent, but it has not yet been bought by a publisher. I'd better restrain my instinct to plaster GR with excerpts for a while. If & when we get a deal, I'll become blatantly self-promoting.
Meanwhile, I'm exploring. I'm a bit heavy to be a butterfly, but I aim to be a talker rather than a lurker. :)

You're very welcome! I try to improve on the group as much as I can, but my awesome members are the ones who make it so enjoyable. :)

My name is Cierra. I'll be 24 in 5 days. I'm currently in the United States Navy but I'll be done with my 6 year term this March and starting up nursing school in the Fall of 2012. I absolutely love reading. I probably do it more then I do anything else (besides Yoga...I'd like to get certified to teach that one day also). I'll read anything that I find to sound interesting all the way from Horror to Romance. I'm not going to lie though...I have a huge soft spot for Harry Potter...we pretty much grew up together :)

Looking forward to getting to know you all. :)

Hello--I have been lurking here for a bit and now feel comfortable enough to introduce myself :) My alias is "Still Reading" and I sure am! I am a wife and mother of 3 young adults. I have loved reading since I could reach the library counter with my shiny new library card. I have the new Nook that came out this year, my husband has the Nook Color and my grown daughter has a Kindle. I loved having a bookshelf crammed with print books, but since we have moved several times, it just doesn't make sense to lug them around. I used to have a book review blog but I had to give it up due to time restraint and disability.
I enjoy almost all genres of books (thus this group made the most sense to me). I am currently on a dystopian kick (Hunger Games trilogy, Enclave, Forest of Hands and Teeth, etc) but I also enjoy suspense reads (mysteries, detectives, thrillers) and some fantasy, memoirs and women's contemporary lit.
So that's it, and I hope to be able to participate more in near future--happy reading!

:)

I've written some children/YA books, and am co-authoring a series of sci-fi/urban fantasy novels (all available on Amazon), and have started on a literary novel that I hope to finish this spring. Among my favorite books of all time: Lolita, Watership Down, and the Gunslinger series.
I have been of the opinion that there weren't nearly enough forums to read reviews and discuss books-- so I'm so glad to be here.

Thanks Diane!!
Hi to all newbies here-- I am pretty new also, and welcome!! To those whom I met last week, I have changed my name to Rita's Still Reading, for convenience of communication. I should have thought of it before, but I was just holding that name aside in case I do a book blog again in the future.
Same person, new name. :)

Merry Christmas to J.D. and everyone here at Book Haven--enjoy this time with family and friends before we all get overwhelmed again!

Delighted to find and join your group. I've read through this introduction thread and you all sound so wonderfully warm, it made me feel comfortable enough to jump into the introductions :-)
My name is Zoe and I read mostly historical fiction, but I can be lured to enjoy an occasional thriller and something a bit more romantic ;-)
I'm on GR since the end of this summer, but was not very active through the recent months. Had to drag myself off this wonderful site, to finish my second novel. So now that it's finished and safely in the editor's hands, I can have fun reading away and discussing it all :-)
Looking forward to reading through your old threads ;)
Merry Christmas to you all!
Zoe :-)

I'm Phoebe, and i live in Australia. I'm rarely seen without a book from my local library, and i'm tryin' to get my friend back into reading! :D
I'm also on GR quite alot!

I am new to the group :)
My name is Isabel, and I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am a mother to a fast growing beautiful girl named Olivia. I am married to a wonderful and caring husband for 13 years and growing strong. We adopted a cute dog at the local shelter and Princess has become part of our family nicely. She is a Beagle, Blue Healer mix. She is extremely smart.
I love to read every minute I can get between work and family life. Yes, I know staying up late is what I do. I must admit that "The Twilight Series" started my love for reading once again since 8th grade.
I love Goodreads! :D

Hello, I am a relatively new writer. I am happy to be here.
So you just got your brand new kindle or ipad?
Congratulations! Santa must have been very good to you.
Now it's time to test run my newly released sexy pictorial art magazine (SPLIT WORLDS) on your kindle or computer.
See it at www.thenon-silenceofthelamb.com/gojah...

My name is Nyssa. I'm a SAHM and (soon to be) substitute teacher. I've always loved reading, but it has just recently become a true hobby. I haven't watched TV in about 3 months. When online, I'm usually either here at GoodReads or I'm on MobileRead, another site dedicated to reading, especially via e-readers.
I hope everyone has had a very Happy & safe Holiday Season!

I hope you had a MERRY CHRISTMAS and I wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sorry been buried in writing, life and stuff for so long. Finally catching up on posting.
My fantasy novel is a coming of age story about a young man who learns he's really a prince that has to fulfill an ancient prophecy by going on a quest to gather eight orbs of light to keep a dark force sealed in it's void prison.
I love my fantasy old school, at least for this series. Never know where the next series, story or book will take you!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

My first love was historical fiction (of the middle-grade variety, mind). Lately I've been trying to get back to that, with questionable success. Nowadays I don't read any particular genre, and I'm always willing to try something new.

Rasciss (dark fantasy) by Shane Porteous
Blood of the Moon (thriller) by Richard Gazala
Jan Does Europe (European travel, non-fiction) by Jude Arnold
Of Good And Evil (paranormal suspense thriller) by Gerald Griffin
Monsoon (Adventure) by Wilbur Smith

I am a reader of scifi, fantasy, some mystery, classic literature and contemporary fiction. Though my eye can be caught by anything that makes me think.
I am a teacher, mostly creative writing, with high school ELA thrown in for variety. I am busy with my non-reading and non-writing life far too much. When I can wrangle the time away from work and family, I read and write about 50/50. Mostly late at night; not hard to figure out why that is.
Please call me Elldee.

I'm a new member and a writer of fantasies and paranormal. I have a YA paranormal on Amazon and a space romance. Hope to read lots of interesting discussions here!

I agree. Bookstores are the magical places :-)
(after saying this I won't admit how addicted I'd become to my e-reading Kindle ;-))
