Lindig | 167 comments So, I discovered that the hardback version of this book isn't on GR. I go to Amazon and discover that the book is listed there with an ASIN (indie publisher). I want to upload the info into GR but haven't done this before. What do I do? I looked in the Lib. Manual but no joy.

Joe (joereaves) | 28 comments To add a new edition you need to select manually add book (the fastest way to get to this is to do a search and it'll come up on the right hand side of the results page). Then once it's added you use combine editions to combine it with editions already on the site.

At least that's how I do it and you're right it doesn't explain that in the manual so I had to figure it out for myself too.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Best to do a search on GR by the books ISBN this should auto import the book from amazon then post back here and some one will combine.

Or use this link to manually add

Lindig | 167 comments Thanks, y'all. I'll give it a go with Joreaves suggestion. I can do the combine myself once I get the book up here. It doesn't have an ISBN, just an ASIN, which I have to go to Amazon to get.

Anyhow, we'll see what success I have.

Lindig | 167 comments Okay, I did a search by ASIN, got the "Manually add book" and put in all the basic info. Then I combined it with the paperback. One thing that I don't have is the cover art, but it's the same as the paperback. Is there a way to copy that cover over to the hardback?

Thanks.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Yes.

Go to the book page for the paperback.
Click on the cover image; this will show you all the available image sizes.
Right-click on the largest size and select "save as"; this will save it to your computer.
Go to the edit page for the Hardcover
Select browse, select the image, then save the book record.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Only kindle and audio editions have AISN's. Paper copies should not be added with AISN. They are Amazon identifiers not book identifiers.

I used to suggest people use ASINs, when there was no ISBN. But given what happened to those books when we ran that cleanup script over the summer, I stopped doing that.

Lindig | 167 comments Okay, I'll do the cover image thing.

I'll delete the ASIN number. Somewhere I have a copy of the hardback (I think) so I'll root it out and see whether it has an ISBN. If so, I'll add it.

Thanks, y'all.

Lindig | 167 comments When I clicked on the cover image, it got larger but I didn't get any available image sizes and it wouldn't save as a jpg.

What now?

When you see the larger image (apparently there is only one size available), Right-click on the image and select "Save as".

If this doesn't work for you, post back and I'll get it.

Lindig | 167 comments I'm on a Mac so I don't have "right click."

I figured it out. I just dragged and dropped the large image onto my desktop and it showed up as a jpg, which I then uploaded.

Now, if only I didn't take it away from one and put it on the other.

Also, I tried to delete the ASIN but it wasn't showing in edit, though it does show when the cursor hovers over the edition pic.

It's all getting too complicated for me.

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Got both

I just down loaded the image you had uploaded but was not displaying and re uploaded.

There is a cache on the page - check this one

On a Mac right click is the Ctlr button and a click at the same on time

*forehead smack* Sorry! I forgot about Macs! (I haven't used one in ages...)

Lindig | 167 comments Thanks, Paula. Any idea why the image I captured and uploaded wasn't displaying?

Cltrl & click -- who knew? You did. And now I do, too. All I have to do is remember that.

Vicki-girl -- Macs rule, you know (heh).

I'm using a Mac with a 2 button plus wheel mouse, and right click works great. I recommend it for anyone using a Mac on a non-Mac-specific site.

Lindig | 167 comments Well, yes, but I'd have to go buy a mouse. I do have some Mac mice, but with my laptop I just use the trackpad.
