It's about a merman who got captured because he thought that a mermaid in her human form was calling to him for help using some secret code involving barking seal pups or something. He's dragged aboard a boat that has a marine biologist on it and some rich guy whose daughter happens to be the one that lured the merman close to the boat. He's in a massive tank that had been designed to hold dolphins. He was injured during capture and the woman tries to make things right by helping him heal, thinking him not sentient enough to understand humans.
He decides to make the woman pay by taking her as his mate. In the end he sheds his tail permanently and marries her to the joy of her father who remains oblivious to the whole story that unfolded on the ship.
