Aarthi (aarthi_g) | 1 comments I am trying to read Moby Dick, anybody want to join? We could exchange notes! :)

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Oh, I had to read it in 7th grade and once was enough. Though I read Philbrick's In the Heart of the Sea (subtitled: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex), found it fascinating, and ALMOST wanted to read Moby Dick again ... but I recovered.

Sorry to be discouraging, but it is on my list of worst books ever written!

Jimmy I think it must be one of those books that you either love or hate, because I consider it one of the best ever written. Along with the storyline you get Melville's first hand objective descriptions of life on a whaling vessel and I thought the details on whales most interesting. And I would agree that Phibrik's In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex would be a rather good companion book. I've no plans to re-read in the immediate future though.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I liked it...didn't love it, but definitely liked it. It took me like 6 months to read, though. I Had to take a vacation from it in the middle. lol. I think it's well worth the effort! Enjoy! :)
